Uni fatality (fiction) in novel

I found this link in the NY Times. It’s about a book which sounds pretty
weird.

I went through the NY Times’ registration process, and endured the popup windows (how tacky for them!). Though the review is for a new book, the unicycle part is from The Northern Lights, a book that I own. I read it a long time ago and don’t remember much, but the boy is pictured on the cover, on his unicycle. That’s why I have it.
