The box containing uni.5 just arrived at my shop. Mona, the UPS delivery person really got a kick out of it as did they guys in the shop. Here’s a picture of me just after the lid was pulled off:
Thanks, Steve. I haven’t seen it with that cool new wheel on it. I’m surprised that the crate is still alive but I think it has been resurrected at many ports.
Now, put on your asbestos suit and go tame that wild ride.
Yes those are the smokes in the bottom right. However, just looking at uni.5 and thinking about the speed made me so nervous I smoked them all.
Thanks to whoever put them in there … after 46 smoke free years, I’m now addicted to nicotine. I’ve been chain smoking Camel studs since yesterday.
But seriously … the photo also shows the indicator arm laying in the spokes. It was kind of stuck between the spokes and the frame. The indicator itself was loose in the box and might be trashed since the back wiggles which moves the the indicator needle .03" - .04". No big deal though - if I can’t fix it I’ll replace it.

I had to beef it up a little as one of the reinforcing boards had split -
that was on the first stop, back in March! It’s great to see that box still
making the rounds. And I guess my fears that the gears would spontaneously
explode as soon as I hit 17mph were unfounded. It must have gone hundreds of
miles by now. Great stuff!
Dan Leff had a 40 mile ride one day. He had other rides, too.
David Stone rode it 160 miles when it was in NYC I think.
I rode it 40 miles before I shipped it to you.
I think there may have been some other riders who went some appreciable distance but I don’t have or remember the numbers.
Anyway, there is 240 miles by three riders. You commuted 13 miles round trip on it once, twice? It would be interesting to have a rough estimate of the total miles. I didn’t want to put on a cycling computer because I was afraid it would go the way of Doug Massey’s dial indicator.

Actually it was 102 miles, with about 35 coming the last day. There was
another day of 27 miles and a bunch of days when I rode it 9 miles or a
bit more. But it might be fair to keep the 160 because that Viscount seat
added what felt like at least 58 miles on that first long ride!
