Uncomfortable seats

I have an airseat from unicycle.com, and while
it is more comfortable than the original Torker
seat, it is still too uncomfortable for 1+ hour rides.

I have never had this problem with bicycle seats.

Has anyone tried to mount a regular bicycle seat on
a unicycle?

It’s really hard to ride because you have to consciously keep the seat betwen your legs or it falls out backwards.
You should try to lower your seat’s air pressure.

Re: Uncomfortable seats

The Creative Geckos suspension Uni that I tried had a very comfortable bicycle seat. It was an Azonics ‘Love Seat’. It was slightly easier to slip off of than a unicycle seat (but easier on the parts when I did). Being oversized and very cushy in the front (which has to be tilted up), it’s much better than the others I experimented with. Unfortunately, my Muni’s are not getting used enough to worry about saddle soreness, but the Azonics will be the replacement for the unibike seat which is getting a lot of wear.

Re: Uncomfortable seats

The problem is pelvic angle. On a bike you sit one way, and on a unicycle your pelvic structure is at a different angle. Plus on a bike you have up to 40% of your weight on the handlebars, making life a lot easier for your crotch.

That’s why you see so many handle and handlebar variations on unicycles that go long distances. Check out www.unitours.org to see a wide variety.

On the Norway ride this year Scot Cooper combined a bicycle saddle with a large handlebar. The handlebar puts him in a more bicycle-like pelvic angle, and it also eliminates the problems of steering and the seat slipping out. I think handlebars are the wave of the future for distance unicycling.

Naaa. They’re the wave of now. I’m putting some on my commuter when it’s done. School started today and I’m riding 2.1 miles each way up and down hills on a 20". Need imaginary shift on the fly multispeed unicycle, for those up and down hills. Also, good thing I’m on an airseat!

I’ll take one of those also. Got a supplier? :D–chirokid–

Re: Uncomfortable seats

well this is just my opionion
the reason that bicycle seats dont hurt when riding a bike is that the
pressure is on a different section of your bum (slightly more towards the
base of your back)
when on a unicycle pressure is directly at the top of your legs on the very
tender peice of skin near your balls. as this skin is very sensitive it
hurts when unicycling.

it is possible to ride with a bike seat on a uni but it will not stop the
sore bum problem. and it is even more uncomfortable as you dont have the
shape of a unicycle seat and therfore it becomes harder to ride and harder
to place weigt on the saddle.

unfortunatly we have to live with uncomfortable riding! :frowning:

if you want a comfy seat try improvising an old seat by getting some high
density foam and some gaffa tape and keep adjusting until you find it comfy.

good luck and happy riding
