All right. I got my ultimate wheel put together and painted last week. Its neat. How far can you guys get? I can go mabye 30-40 revolutions. Is it just me or does it feel very strange when the wheel stops rubbing your leg and is perfectly straight? That throws me off every time. Can you get used to this??
Some kids are such jerks. He comes up to me and says “you cant ride that its impossible, it doesn’t have a seat” I’m just thinking Isn’t that the whole reason for having one? So I tell him its not and I’ll prove it. I hop on and start to go when my ankle get REALLY twisted and I fell HARD. He says " see I told you" I was ready to strangle him!!! I get back on and go thirty feet, dismount and try to tell him hes a jerk, but he just gets on his bike, mumbles a little and goes away. ARGHHHH!!!
Mean people suck.
Technically I think someone could go for as long as they have the strength for. Currently I do a 2 minute routine on the ult. whl. in my programs. I’ve seen others to much longer routines. You just have to develope the strength and endurance for it.
I hate to be redundant and repeat this mantra that is commonly seen here at RSU…Practice, Practice, Practice…all that to say that you should be able to get used to not rubbing the wheel. In fact that is probably what you should be striving for.
Some people just have a hard time believing something they can’t see and then when they are shown the truth, they have two much pride to acknowledge it. And they really don’t have a hard time pointing out when we fall and have a hard time along the way. Bummer for that kid, he’s missing out.
After a couple of weeks of practice I can go around the block. Usually I
begin to falter because my legs get too tired. It’s a lot more effort that
I expected. My ultimate is a 26" with 5" cranks.

For me this is a strange feeling also. It is, however, what I’m working
towards. Right now I ride with lizard skins shin guards and they provide a
smooth, durable surface on which the tire can slide. If I try to ride
without them the tire has a tendency to tear into the flesh of my inner
calf.
Currently I’ve been concentrating on idling. So far I’ve only gotten up to
about 5 idles before the tire “catches” (usually on the backstroke) and
throws me off.

Yes, mean people suck. I’ve not had any mean comments. My neighbors think
I’m a little nuts, but have made only encouraging comments.
I’ve also been getting comments like:
“I can’t explain it to you now, but it is mechanicly impossible”
and
“I know about those things, and you need a saddle to make it work”
When you have been trying for an hour to get your aching legs to move the UW beyond the 5 rev. mark those comments are NOT welcome.
BUT
Besides saying that these people don’t know what they are talking about the comments also say how great UW’ing is. We are doing something that many people genuinely think is impossible!!
This is the kind of positive thinking that can potentially save the lives kids who might otherwise end up strangled by angry unicyclists.
Well Homey, with my experience, kids here in Utah would rather make fun of you than give a compliment; it seems their whole purpose in life is to wait untill you mess up and then laugh their evil little heads off. Truly, mean people really suck.
