You need Lunis They are the london unicycle club that

Hi there,

There are a few riders scattered round London, but no club as such.

Lunis play unicycle hockey every thursday, which is wicked fun and you should totally come to it. Hockey is pretty much the most fun way to get good basic riding skills really quickly. It’s also a good place to meet other riders.

Personally I don’t ride inside except for hockey, so I’ve never been that fussed about the lack of anywhere indoor to ride. If you really want to ride indoors, there’s juggling clubs and spinning clubs in various places, but they tend to be a bit crowded for riding, I don’t think there are any in really big venues.

I’ve organised a few rides in and around London, both street riding and heading out of town to ride muni. If you’re interested in doing some riding round town or doing muni, get in touch (by pm or news@joemarshall.org.uk ), or organize a ride and post it on here.

What sort of riding do you do and where are you based?

Joe

Hi,

Perhaps we should make a London Muni Club?

I’ve been riding around Richmond Park (London), good paths, and well away from traffic. Was wondering if there was anyone who’d like to join me?

I’ve been riding my 26" Muni it’s got a Nimbus II frame some massive knobbly tire, with a KH saddle - very comfortable! Beats the hell out of my 24" cheap piece of rubbish.

Trouble is that I work abroad, Angola, I’ve been see riding around the camp here and get some well strange looks! Won’t be back for five weeks, so that gives plenty of time to get a group together?

Let me know,

JJ

angola?
mmm
u ever make it down to south africa?
johannesburg in particular?
we mostly ride cheap pieces of rubbish down here, but it would be grand to have u at the club one thurday evening

send word

I’d be keen on a fairly regular outdoor Uni meet in or around London. Maybe something like the New York Uni club are doing

New York Unicycle Club

If anyone’s planning a muni/street ride around London let me know. I ride a 24x3 Nimbus (badly).

Paul

Sounds like we should organise a meet!

Email me at

Fontiminal@yahoo.com

I’ll get a list together of phone numbers then we can get the wheel rolling and have a get together.

Where in London do ya bide?

SA - Can’t say that I go there - Only been to Jo’burg airport.

You’ve got a link to your club, was thinking of going on holiday there, not sure what the g/f would say me dragging a unicycle along with us!

JJ

Balham (near Clapham).

Can I suggest either

a) meeting at Trafalgar Square where the skate-dancers meet up. There’s trials stuff and lots of space for freestyle riding there. The surface is super smooth, good for spins and pirouettes and a great place to learn to juggle whilst riding etc.

b) or in the summer meeting at the Bandstand on Clapham Common. The reason I suggest this is because it’s also a meetup for the Poi in the Park meets that go on every Sunday from about March->September. They have lots of lovely people spinning poi and juggling and stuff, so even if no other unicyclists were to turn up, there’d be loads of other people around spinning. It’s also pretty close to Brixton Beach which is a sort of mini skate park, only bowls though, no rails or whatnot and has a nice pub nearby.

I’m planning a street ride, I was hoping to go riding in Trafalgar Square this sunday, although I’ve just this minute limped back from a night muni ride with a rather sprained ankle, so I may have to hold my horses till the next sunday.

Joe

Oooo ooo ooo, if it’s another EMU stylee thingy in the offing, you can count me in! The last one was great fun, and I’m (slightly) nearer to London now…

Phil

here’s the best link to contact us (please feel free to join the group)

we do have a simmilar group for unicyclists but with the 8th South African National Juggling Convention and Unicycling Festival coming up in march, we decided to combine the memberships into one group, we’re hoping to reach south african jugglers and uni’ists that have been doing their thing quietly and without anyone knowing about them and getting them hooked-up with others in their area so they can make their way to the convention
from the 16th to the 22nd of march in hibberdeen in kwazulu-natal
when is your holiday?
(BTW. the convention will be dead cheap. the weekend convo 20th-22nd march will be R300 - if u pay b4 the end of feb - including dormitory style accomodation and all meals. divide by seven to get to $'s
the whole week convention will be an additional R125 per day, meals included
the train from jhb down to hibberdeen - and back - will be in the region of R400
all in, from the time u land in Johannesburg international airport, u’re looking at less than $200 for a weeklong convention, all meals included
not bad, what?)

I could certainly be tempted up to the Smoke for an outdoor Uni meet…

Okay,

Sunday February 29th

10.00 Waterloo Station by the escalators to the Eurostar. Or turn up later and phone 07905 696427

There’ll be riding suitable for trials/muni unicycles and also the areas we’ll be riding have good surfaces, so freestyle / beginner riders are welcome too.

Anyone up for this?

Joe

it would be great to have u
just to make sure u get the whole picture…
we aren’t aware of a single municycle anywhere in jhb
we all ride on no-name brand type uni’s
a couple now sport slightly fatter and mildly knoblier bmx tyres as a nod toward the improvements in the world of unicycling

so, if u’re looking at coming down and joining a group of maniacs flying thru the bush at breakneck speed, u might be dissapointed.
if u want to come down to BE the maniac flying thru the bush at breakneck speed, something can be arranged.

That sounds good to me Joe.

Paul

Hell yes… that’s going to be an excellent weekend, the Exeter unimeet on the saturday, London on sunday and a three day graduate thingy for work starting at 6:30am on monday morning…

Assuming the trains let me get there, of course…

Phil

Yes, I’ll be up for some of that, trains permiting and all that…

Matt

Could be a busy weekend, South West Uni meet on saturday, then up to London for London. There are trains to Waterloo from Exeter if any one wants to do both.

Sarah

I’m definately considering this, although I’m supposed to be doing family things that Saturday…
