Turning Seat

Hi, I have been having a problem with the seat on the Semcycle XL; even after
getting a new nut, I can’t tighten it enough and the seat turns. Any advice on
how to keep it straight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Noam

Re: Turning Seat

I had the same problem with my XL. That bolt would not get tight enough. I
switched to a medium quality quick release bolt. No more problems with a
twisting seat.

Another thing you can do is look for burrs and such on the inside of the neck
where the seatpost clamps in. If there are burrs, weld splatter or chrome
splatter in there file it down or do what is reasonable to get rid of
it.

One of my big pet peeves with unicycles is the cheap seatpost clamp that most of
them use. They should learn from the BMXers and use a real clamp. Some unicycles
even spot weld that damn cheap piece of junk clamp on the uni so you can’t
remove it and replace it with a real clamp. Grrr.

Re: Turning Seat

I was told to put a little grease on the threads before I tighten them up.
Otherwise it’s hard to get it tight enough. I don’t like quick release bolts too
much because they seem to always bang into the inside of my knees and leave big
marks. The best thing to keep the seat post from moving is a double pinch bolt.
it clamps both the seat post and the unicycle and the seat doesn’t go anywhere.
I know that GT makes them for BMX bikes for about 5 dollars. You might have to
work at getting to old clamp off but I’ve heard that they come off without too
much trouble.

Re: Turning Seat

That is a good idea about putting grease on the threads. I had not thought of
trying that. An additional idea might be to try a better quality nut (higher
quality threads so that it threads on easier). The combination of the grease and
a better nut might make that crummy clamp usable.

The quick release levers are a pain in the leg. I’ll be happy when I find some
way to clamp the seatpost on my XL without the quick release lever.
