It’s getting really hot outside. The winter must’ve been left out of the calendar this year and autumn went straight into spring. Which is not that bad(except, of course, for the critical water shortage), only early spring gave rise to early summer. It was around 30 degrees yesterday. And it’s only getting hotter.
So, it looks like I’ve got about six months of hot weather ahead. Which means that I’m gonna have to wash my KH shinguards and put them on the shelf. Now, I don’t want to give up aggressive trials and street for such a long time, which means I’m gonna have to buy new armour that’s more hot-weather friendly. I don’t really need knee protection, it’s just the shins that worry me. I was thinking Try All Shinguards. They are quite cheap, look pretty mean and have different paddings. Anyone has any experience with them? Also, if I wear medium size KH guards, what size Try Alls do I need?
I need something for the shins only. Less area covered - more area for sweat to evaporate off - less hot. Knee protection seems unneeded in most UPDs I have.
to be completely honest… the ones your looking at will kill you right at the botom of your foot…like where your shoe meets your foot…the little flaps on the botoms of the shin gaurds will start to really annoy you after maybe a week…or less.
I tried some for like a month and they killed me.
but whatever…
ive got 661 veggie shin guards and theyre great. they dont have the knee bit either, its got those flap things on the bottom but they dont bother me at all
and i think the 661 vegies look cooler than the try all ones
i think that when my 661 4x4’s finally wear out, which won’t be too long now. that i’m going to get these…http://sixsixone.com/Catalog_661Bike.aspx?id=c0698e51-4415-49b6-879e-127e8aa17673&product=c2bb0970-0fce-4da7-ab02-24d753a38a62they cost the same thing as the new kh pads, but have hard plastic so you know that you’re protected. the only thing i might do to add a lil bit more padding is add a piece of fabric low on my calf(the only spot that won’t be covered, but i dont know seeing as how it’s rare that get hit that low anyway.
If your gonna get anything…get these.
I have em and I love em.
They are like 20X lighter than the kh ones and they breath great becasue they are just foam with square holes cut into them…
they are super strong and have alread taken a beating…
Those Try-All pads look just like the Krusher pads I had.
They were extremely comfortable.
The flap on the Try-All pads would only help so that they dig in less… my Krusher pads, if you walked around a lot, would bother the area between your shin and foot if you didn’t wear thickish socks.
EDIT: Mine had two big flaps to velcro at the back. Not sure I like the strap idea.
I was gonna suggest that you could just buy some cheap football shinpads. They cost about a 10th the price of specific unicycle or mtb pads and od exactly the same job. That’s what I use just cus I refuse to pay so much more for slightly altered protection. And if they are too hot then you can drill holes in them and adapt them to suit your needs best. Due to them being so cheap, it wont matter what you do to them.
I’m thinking about getting these to replace my 4x4s. I just read some reviews on them and several people complained of the pads not staying in place. Do you notice this at all when you’re riding with them? Are the straps too stretchy or irritating? Is there any protection on the back? Also, is there a plastic shell on them or is it just foam?
