Making a big perfect wall between the USA and Mexico sounds like a solution. But at what cost ? Trump is rich, so he can make Mexico pay for it, presumably by suing them in a Mexican court. Good luck with that.
Is it possible to make this perfect wall ? Then we just deport 11 million people. Surprise, now only Trump can afford vegetables that , let’s face it, are mostly grown with the labor of illegal Mexicans.
About time the natives kick all the immigrants out. I guess those 5 million people will have a lot of space after kicking the 315 million or so immigrants like trump out.</sarcasm>
Not that we’re doing any better over here. Once again we live in times when being German is something to be ashamed of.
Well for starters deduct the cost from the aid package Mexico receives annually that is supposed to help their people but lines Politicos pockets.
As far as vegetables, by law the workers must be here legally to work. So if our people enforced and upheld the present law, what fence/wall would be needed.
You also have to understand that Mexicans are not the only “Illegal immigrants” here. Our problem seems to be with the government sworn to uphold our laws and doing something else of their own choice, looks like we should start there.
OK, my family came from somewhere else to the US in 1603. Am I here illegally/ we never filled out any paperwork? We predated the states. and Germans should not be ashamed as a people because you can not solve others problems.
A country should resist allowing immigration of people openly hostile to their way of life, assistance and help are fine. but to allow a force to come in and create a climate of unrest in a peaceful, helping host country. Not smart, they seem to feel entitled to the aid instead of fixing their own countries problems… at home.
Trump is a member of the ultra-rich. His job is to convince the public that they have more in common with Trump…than they do with poor immigrants. In this regard, Trump is not much different from many other racist, culture-war-fanning politicians.
I tend to recall that the word “paradise” comes from ancient persian “pari daïza” : enclosed garden.
So enclosing a country within high walls is supposed to make it a paradise?
Trump should go further and propose a sci-fi “bubble” to enclose tightly the country with some fancy force. No insect (or hurricane) will then be able to bother the paradise.
I know why, you can’t even afford a bicycle. What a bunch of losers. You need a few billion $, to show me you can make real deals. I didn’t realize so many Mexicans rode unicycles, but Mexicans love me. You guys don’t have enough energy to pedal 2 wheels. I spun 100 roulette wheels at once and bankrupted a casino. You guys can’t make America great again, because you are one wheeled low energy losers. And you have bad hair. Your trophy wife came in 3rd place in the Iowa fairs hog competition.
I agree with Lobbybopster; if there were some enforcement on farmers’ hiring of illegals it would make a big dent in the people crossing over. Not everyone comes here for agricultural jobs, but that’s a big piece of the pie.
I think a major setback was when they took kids out of the fields. Child labor laws and all. I grew up picking strawberrys and bucking hay. That’s how I got spending money, bought school clothes and learned the value of the dollar.
Not may adults will work for those kind of wages. Boot all the illegals out and the produce prices will just have to go higher. Letting the kids back in the fields
would help. Wouldn’t solve everything but would help.
It’s quite silly that society draws artificial lines around areas of habitable land and controls the movement of humans between them. I dream of the day when we have a world without borders and without a criminal class.
Like in my heart I can hear Lennon writing “Imagine”. As an end goal I would rather see a sort of Lennonist Gilby open borders solution, than the opposite sort of Nazi answer.
But in my brain Eric Cartman starts saying “you are crazy”. I remember all these pictures a friend showed of his trip to Haiti. Horrible over populated shit hole. When I grew up in CT they ran a plow down the street to clear away snow. In Haiti, they do that to clear away garbage.
I have a lot of Haitian friends. They are multi lingual (polyglot?) , and very hard working. They think the minimum wage here is amazingly high, so they work much cheaper under the table for cash.
So my heart is with Gilby on this, but it is my opinion that if we allowed all immigrants to flood in, they would. Perhaps as much as 100 million /year. My Haitian friends tell me Haiti is a polluted ,stripped , over populated corrupt shit hole. That is why they left…
Now add poor sections of the world, Bangladesh is particularly stinky this time of year. I hear Iraq and Syria are really gearing up for the holidays. How many Palestinians might want to move into the Hasidim area of NYC? The Jews second homeland.
In spirit, I agree with Gilby. But my inner Cartman says no way bro. We don’t want to balloon into a country of 2 billion in 5 years.
Opening the top border could work…maybe.
Opening the bottom border would not be so good.
Open borders with somewhat equal finances sounds fine.
Open borders with a large financial difference is just going to suck from the more prosperous. Cold fact is, the southern countries wouldn’t be at our level, we would just get sucked down to their level. Generations of greed and corruption have ruined the thought of a “one world” existence. That will only happen when we have to truly depend on one another. Nuke war, major plague, huge meteor…alien attack. As long as there is more than one religious belief, and money has value, man as a whole will never get along. Man is the virus on an otherwise perfect earth.
as long as there is more than zero religious belief ?
(just kidding: as an atheist I don’t care about multiple religious beliefs as long as they help people not enslave them)
