DivX

Chex,

Go to http://www.divx.com/divx/ .

Just below the light blue box you will see “Standard DivX Codec(FREE)” . Click on that to download the free codec.

Good luck.

Re: Trouble with AVI

Which videos are giving you trouble?

Some videos are encoded with DivX. DivX can cause problems because the codec is not automatically downloaded by Windows Media Player if it’s not already installed or if you have an old version. You have to download and install DivX manually.

Get the latest version of DivX here: DivX Downloads
Click on the link labeled “Standard DivX Codec(FREE)”. That is the free codec with no ad-ware. The free codec will play all DivX video, but does not have the fancy encoding features of the pay version and ad-ware version. If you’re only concerned about playing DivX video the “Standard DivX Codec(FREE)” version is all you need.

Some other handy tools:
AVIcodec
G Spot Codec Information Appliance

These two tools will read the information in an AVI file and tell you what codec was used to encode it. Once you know what codec was used it is easier to hunt down the reason for playback problems.

There are various codec packs around that you can download if you find that you are missing a needed codec.

my new sealab 2021 downloads are now opperational!
