Those who do web hosting may want to take note of this.
As you may know, the new system for registering .us domains is coming soon
(summary: you will be able to register yourname.us instead of yourname.city.state.us)
One of the requirements is that the registrant must be located in the US.
But that’s not all. The domain’s authoritative nameservers must be
physically located in the USA.
So if you’re planning to host a .us domain at Tera-Byte, for example, you
can’t use Tera-Byte’s nameservers.
By the way, your friendly OpenSRS reseller (in any country can start to
accept your pre-registrations for .us tomorrow. These will be submitted when
the registry goes live (scheduled for April 24) at which point you will
learn if your registration was successful.
Think of the possibilities . . . think of phrases ending in the word “us”
