So, over the past few months I have been training for a sprint-triathlon. IT consists of a half-mile swim, sixteen-mile bike ride(non uni), and a three-mile run. I have regained much of my fitness, but I still wonder how I can use my unicycling (20" zephyr brand) to get even more fit. Anyone have any exercise tips that relate to triathlons or unicycling? I am generally just trying to find something fun to do without ever stepping foot in a gym. Thanks in advance.
G’day, Reed. I’m a slow swimmer, and a slower runner, so all I can suggest is that you practice those aspects however you can. On the cycle section, working on maintaining a high cadence on the uni for sustained periods will help you with the bike. TT’ing on a bike requires that you ride at near anaerobic levels throughout the distance. Being able to hold your output at that level is something you can certainly work on with the uni.
i will say the level i am at now:
swimming: not very fast, but if i stop for 5 seconds every 50 yards i can make it to the end
cycling: great. i ride distances much higher than 16 miles every week. i can probably ride 16 miles at an average speed of 17.2 mph, but if i go faster i will be too tired to run
running: havent tried running after cycling yet, but running 3 miles alone i can do in about 24 minutes
thanks into the blue. i actually just ran a full length brick today, and did quite well. rode 16 in 56 minutes and after a three minute transition ran 3 miles in 24 minutes. not bad for me
