trial/street for tall, big rider

Greetings.

I am 6’4" and 225 lbs. Currently riding a 26" Nimbus II. As winter nears, I have been thinking of something that I can use indoors to build up more handling and hopping skills. I can use the warehouse where I work since I am not aware of a gym in the Cleveland, Ohio area where I can ride. Yes, I do know about Ray’s Indoor, but don’t always want to pay to ride.

I’m really interested in a trials or street since they will handle the abuse and I know I need ISIS cranks, but should I consider a 24" muni because of my size or is a 20" street/trials OK? I am not a youngster and don’t imagine huge drops, but some abuse of the uni would be nice to do without fear of breaking it easily.

I tried the search, but didn’t find anything that was this specific.

Thanks!

I’m 6’2" and currently about 230lbs and have an impact athmos. I ordered a longer seatpost when I got it and it’s fine. I took it when I was working away as there wasn’t space in the van for my bigger wheel and did some light muni on it too. I’m by no means a trials rider (yet!) but it seems like it’ll last as my skill level improves.
Also maybe look at long neck options as they should be stronger since more of the seatpost is actually in the frame.

20" with a longer seat post should be fine. I am 6’2" and 200 lbs. I ride a 19" Nimbus Equinox. The square crown is great for performing one-footed tricks. I find it a super all-around unicycle for learning freestyle/street/trials. It has a long neck. Check the inseam specifications when ordering. The KH long neck trials looks pretty cool, too. My advice: don’t bother with the 24" right now. You need a 20"!

I am 5’7’’ and 132 lbs and I am currently using Nimbus Titan. The quality is superb. Well, it took me some time to get used to it, but I am totally happy with it.

Titan is a UDC product btw, not Nimbus, and it’s a 36" road/trail unicycle which isn’t trials or street although that can be confusing.

+1 on a trials.

Put on some plastic pedals and a non-marking white tire (like the Try-All if you can find it or Nimbus Blizard) and you could ride it in your house (I’d only do it on carpet or lenolium, UPD’s can scratch/dent/crack wood & tile floors). Build some obstacles in your living room (see signature) ie lowish sandwich boards, skinnies (ie 2x4 on it’s side or on end, supported), and 2x4 & 4x4’s to roll over can make good obstacles. Also to improve your larger hops go for distance and accuracy rather than hight.

You can make them so they are easily moveable and break down to take up less space.

Edit: hardwood floors would prob be ok w/ plastic pedals, but my floor is pine. Still I’d look for plastic pedals w/ rubber on the ends like these.
Also you could do flatland tricks. The Poham brothers got so good IMO largely from riding for many winter hours in their converted garage.
