Yeah, you are better off using a wall, and leaving it behind ASAP. That contraption will insure that whoever uses it takes a very long time to learn to ride.

I used a similar concept for doing my first steps in one foot wheel walking at a freestyle convention. And i must say, it really helped me. I would have not been able to practice this without using both hands to hold me. What was used there was just made of benches and balance beams standing parallel. It had just the right hig to leave your arms horizontal while you are in balance and grab for hold when struggeling.
But I agree with you that it is important to leave it as soon as possible.
