Training in "off season"

okay okay, there’s no off season - i might be seeking advise on an ice tyre for a 20 or 24 inch…

that said, indoor, cold days, office …

oh my

just scored at the recycle trash/dump, a rather heavy duty under desk “bike”… this one has internal belt drive and a rather heavy fly wheel (that i’m tempted to harvest for an euler’s disk)

but, my lizard brain said “hey, that’s beefy” and i’m thinking i can use it as a unicycle trainer, in a doorway to start, keep the upper body still, and perch on the thing, and simply pedal. you can feel it. man. just what i need for a couple months

i’m loving it. off seat training should be boss for ultimate wheel, and in general, balance, and everything. cool.

Unicycling unlike bicycling requires forward or backward momentum to maintain balance and stability. Having a stationary trainer is not practical or in my opinion possible. Off season training should be a combination of strength , cardio, heathy diet and getting back on one wheel when ever possible.

i was thinking of using the thing, standing on it, hips stable, eyes forward, and going for endurance, and cardio… it’s small, almost an ultimate wheel, so there’s that dynamic, balance is required, in just a couple days, i can see how it’s better than riding a stationary bike (esp seated), or even standing on it. hands free is the ideal.

also general functional cross training is on the list.

I would love to see a video

How about this.
“standing” on the pedals with “no hands” on the stationary bike trainer.
I was trying to do this on a spin cycle.
Not easy. In fact, I haven’t figured that out yet.
It requires a “faster” processing of the fore aft instability when you feel it.
Also, more power, speed and reversal activation of your pedaling action, because you are fighting the flywheel on the machine.

If anybody can stand and pedal on the spin cycle or any stationary bike, I would be really impressed. Also, how long can you maintain that. I’m guessing not very long.
In theory it should be easy, because you it’s only fore/aft balance, and not lateral balance.
I think the key is “upper body twist” integration to the sudden accel or decel for that side of the pedal that you need for balance.

Anyways, that would be a great cross training method, i believe if it were possible.
…slam

By the way, I think this string should be open to the subject of “any” activity done “off season” to stay in shape for strength, conditioning, weight loss or even unicycle motor skills.
