toughest person ever

Let’s hope they stay out of politics.

Have you ever had a psychotic break, with paranoia and/or whatever was going on in her mind? I imagine adrenaline up the wazoo was part of the equation, along with that ‘lucky bastard’ thing. I give her credit. But having your adrenaline stuck at full-on, or otherwise being scared out of your mind, can override a lot. We see athletes take big hits and then keep going, at least until the finish line or the end of a game. I did something like that a few weeks ago, after a big stupid MUni crash where I decided to finish the ride instead of turn back. So I essentially sanded away part of my knee for nine miles (big scrape vs. leg armor). Stupid.

Also because he isn’t insane. But I’ve also seen Kris take some nasty falls on the trail. Not very often, but I’ve seen it. His reactions and reflexes are cat-like. Though he is not practiced at being hit by cars, he’s very good at absorbing impacts out on the trails.

Perhaps his luck has never been tested as hers was. The odds are against him (or anyone else), but I can say that and still give Sabrina credit for being tough.

There’s two kinds of suicide. Suicide to make a point (“fixable” attempts), and suicide to be dead (which can optionally include making a point). Last weekend someone jumped off the Foresthill Bridge in Auburn, where we had the first MUni Weekend. I happened to ride through within a couple of hours of the event. He managed to land right next to the trail, which is at least 650’ below the bridge rail. He then bounced/rolled the rest of the way down to the river, another 80’ down. He actually made a body-shaped crater where you could clearly make out two legs and a torso. Gross. I took a picture, but will not be posting it in the near future.

adrenaline is effective in the short term

My primary assumption is that people may differ greatly in mind, but not so much in body. Kriss holm is likely better at softening hits from falling than most people. Taking hits is a real skill.

Not swelling, getting bruises or noticeable stiffness of movement 48 hrs later, is what surprises me. We are all entitled to our opinion, particularly the insane.

I am sure I am not the only person to swell and get stiff-lame like , after a big hit. Drugs, insanity, good for a day at best. I always thought everyone’s body would pay a price. Swell, bruise, want to lie in bed like you have been hit by a car.
