I am going to buy my first unicycle in the next two days. I can get either a
Torker for $85 or a Cycle Pro for $89. Both are 24" and are new. Are these
two about the same in quality or is one significantly better than the other?
Does one have better/more features than the other? Is there anything I should
look out for?
I can’t claim to be an expert, but I’d say Torker…
the torker, unlike the cycle pro has a flat fork. This is great for woking on
one-footed stuff. (I still have trouble doing one-footed stuff on a 24", but
I’m glad I have a flat fork on my 20") Just looking at the frame, as far as I
can tell, the torker looks nearly identical to a semcycle XL. (comments on
this anyone?)
I’ve been told the bearing configuration on the Torker is superior, but I don’t
know much about what makes one set of bearings better than another.
Seats are slightly different, but I’d say on par with each other. As for the
wheel, hub, crank arms and pedals, I’d guess there is little difference, but am
really not sure on this one.
hope that helped jeff

According to the UnicycleSource Web site, the Torker (used to be called Zephyr)
has a square fork (good for future tricks), and a split block bearing mount.
Though the fork crown may not matter to you, the split block bearing is a much
better design than the “lolipop” type, if that’s what your Cycle Pro has. Check
a picture: http://www.unicyclesource.com/Torker_(formerly_Zephyr_-_3_models)28518.html
If your Cycle Pro has bearings that are held in by two bolts that stick out from
the side of the fork leg, get the Torker. Also, if the Cycle Pro has metal
guards on the ends of the seat, again go for the Torker.
Thanks to all of you who sent me email and responded here. I picked up my Torker
last night after work. Now I need to learn to ride it!
