no 300?
i disagree with apocolypse now being so high on the list
its was decent but it was boring and the last 15 minutes just didnt make sense
The Civil War by Ken Burns
Over about 6 episodes and maybe 10 hours, the music was great, the history real, the narrators first class. Not really a movie, more of a history doc , Iāve watched it several times.
Just to show how opinions can differ; Apocalypse Now is my #1 war movie since it is not a straight forward war movie. Itās deeper than that. Think about who survives at the end.
The meaning of the movie? Poof-you live, poof-you die. No rhyme no reason. How the strong and the weak deal with the stress of a war where the line between right and wrong is not well defined.
But I can see where others like there action more straight up. Now you want to talk about bored: Das Boot.
I think Cold Mountain deserved to be higher. It showed the human side of the Civil war. How many people know that as many soldiers died in the American Civil War is in all other wars the US fought in combined.
Edit: to add that A beautiful Life deserved to be in that list. I guess I just like movies that show the human side of wars and not the guns and bullets.
Also Iāll add: Hunt for Red October as best āaction-entertainmentā war movie.
i do agree with you about Apocalypse Now being a very good movie but as soon as they met up with the frenchies it became boring. i thouroughly enjoyed every minute up untill then
Iāve heard it is very good as well. Itās on my list of things to watch.
Ahhhhh I now see the problem, you saw Apocolypse Now the Directorās cut or whatever they call it. Yeah they added some real crap in that version.
ok must be that
yea, credits do that sometimes.
Did you like the ending?
How can you tolerate that much lugubrious fiddle music?
It was a sad movie, except for the ending.
What. you want more cheerful bugle music?
Maybe itās because the list was made in 2005?
Would you guys consider Band of Brothers a āwar movieā?
BoB is a television series not a movie.
Casablanca and Zulu were the only two movies I expected to see high on the list(They are on mine!).
I didnāt notice the last 15 minutes making any less sense than the rest of the movie. Or the war, for that matter.
How come the Lord of the Rings movies arenāt on there? If that wasnāt a war, neither was anything else!
It is, but Iāve watched them all at once like a movie, and theyāre much more movie quality than TV quality imnsho.
LotR is the best war movie, good pick JF.
I just wanted to mention that Saving Private Ryan is, despite its visual realism, one of the most unrealistic war-movies ever made. There is no way resources would be squandered in such a manner to save one specific soldier, especially not considering the type of people who become generals.
Also you have a list of 100 war-movies and When Trumpets Fade isnt on it. I can only imagine that this must be because you
ve never seen it, as it`s one of the best ones ever made, rivaling Thin Red Line for my personal favorite.
Fyi the movie is based on Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, which was about a journalist who went looking for a crazed Belgian colonialist in the Congo, living far up the river. The Brando character is based on him. If you read the book the movie makes perfect sensse, although it`s not a typical war-movie because of this.
Cāmon.
If youāre bored, youāre not paying attention.
The tension in that U-boat is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
