Full Story

This is from a program on channel 4 which was on t’other day isn’t it?

I always wonder who it is who decided the nations’ taste in music, film and TV and then summarises it in a handily sized TV program with just the right amount of soundbites from people you either have never heard of, or would rather forget.

On the plus side, they did show the deer hunter after this program.

Isn’t it funny how peaceniks and hippies tend to love watching war films…

Why isn’t Dr Strangelove at no.1? It’s obviously the best war movie ever made. Did you know Sellers ad-libbed his whole performance? Clever man…“Gentleman, you can’t fight in here… This is the war room”

I just noticed that Troy is ranked above films like Gone With the Wind and numerous other blinders…Travesty. Did they even watch Troy? It was wankypoo!

yeah, it’s a BBC thing
those kind of lists are always bound to generate more argument and discussion that they provide entertainment
still a fun way to spend an evening
recently saw the BBC’s 50 places to see and 50 things to do b4 u die on SATV
fun
(except for the ‘catching a blue marlyn’ bit…)

Unfortunately it’s not just a BBC thing. All of our 5 channels seem to be doing them. They’re cheap to make and get good ratings…They’ve been going about a year or so now. It began with big things like: 100 greatest songs/bands/films. They’re running out of stuff to do them on now they’re getting more and more specific. It wont be long until we get
100 greatest non speaking actors in films which also starred fish. Which will only be marginally less rivetting than what they’re serving up at the moment.

It’s T.V. like this that gets me wound up about having to pay for a TV license.

Well I was going to ask why Dr Strangelove is all the way down there, but I was beaten to it. Has anyone else noticed a hugely strong resemblance in Greg Prupes of “Whose Line is it Anyway?” in both appearance and voice?

Andrew

Dr Strangelove resembling Greg Prupes?

Dr Strangelove is, indeed, a brilliant movie which seems to defy its age. Sellers ad libbed the last scene because he forgot his lines. What makes you say he ad libbed his entire performance?

from the TV program being discussed here. I caught 5 minutes of it t’other night…Another reason to avoid top 100 programs it would seem.

my favourite war movie would have to be “Black Hawk Down”!

ah, u’re from canada…

i’ve just been thinking, this movie’s got as much chance of making it onto my personal ‘War Movie’ list as the ‘English Patient’
or Mars Attacks

how can “Johnny’s got his Gun” not be in there!?

cause it’s a british list perhaps?

The academy award winning Italian film, “It’s a Beautiful Life” was not on the list either. I wonder how you make the list. Liters of blood spilled? Lives lost on the screen? Total time integrated decibels from explosions? Cast? Number of viewers? Did it say in the article you linked that I was too lazy to read, Dave?

kinda
it was voted for by viewers of channel 4

LOL! Now there’s a good math joke…

How did The Battle of the Bulge not make that list?

Ha, That battle has not ended yet

Hambuger Hill

I cant understand why nobody gives hambuger hill the credit it deserves it is one of the best war movies of all time easily in the top 50. But nobody seams to be putting it in their top 100 i am amazed that everybody seams to forget about this classic movie. Can someone please explain to me why no one puts it in the top 100?

Because:

“Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, four Pepsi, chip.”

War of the Roses in in the top 25.
