Tools needed to keep Uni running.

I ordered a KH trials uni from bedford, excited about getting that in to use!

So with this new shiny uni, what tools will I need to keep it in tip top shape?

An allen wrench set and a smallish wrench of some sort.

Bike pump.

That’s all I use.

I have the: Bell Ultimate Bike Tool (Walmart)
A small socket wrench with a few sockets. (Sears)
A little Crescent Wrench. (Sears)
A $15 electric bike pump(Walmart)
And for a KH you are going to need an axle key, so your hub can stay tight. (Sears)

It is helpful to have powertools if you ever do modifications but for basic maintenance you just need to make a small kit of tools(like $20) that you can easily carry on a ride, so if you ever do have trouble you can fix it in a jiffy. Walmart and Sears are 2 great places to buy tools. Sears has everything, and avoid going to Home Depot if you have to. They are lame and HD is mega pricey.

For a trials tire, tire levers are a must, or will be eventually.

I think the KH seat bolts are 10mm. A box end wrench is nice.

Like the others have mentioned: A hex/allen wrench set with sizes for the seat clamp, pinch bolt and bichin bolt. Tire irons.

Pedal wrench.

Socket for taking apart pedals.

Anti-sieze if the cranks start squeaking.

Have the wheel professionally tensioned if the spokes start to make noise.

I keep a basic set of tools in my hydration pack for trials and muni.

The big KH crank bolts are 8mm. I carry in my camelbak a profile bolt wrench, a bike pump, a crescent wrench, a spoke wrench, a 5mm allen key, and an 8mm allen key. The crescent wrench works in a pinch for pedals, seat nuts, main caps, and most other bolts. The 5mm is for the seat clamp, the pump is obvious, the profile allen key is for the muni, and the 8mm is for the Onza. I’m gonna stop carrying the 8mm wrench when I get profiles for my trials uni.

I think a crescent wrench works for most bolts on the uni, although a metric socket set and a 15mm open end wrench are nice for home use. Also a good metric allen key set is useful.

I didn’t know that you needed to tighten the hub. I havn’t done anything to my Summit or KH 24 hub.
