Here’s an article from Dolores Colorado about Tom Miller’s Iron horse ride. Aspen Mike wasn’t able to do the Iron Horse this year so Tom was the only unicyclist to compleate the race this year, and the second ever. It’s an amazing acomplishment if you have ever been over these passes you know what I’m talking about.
I had heard that you had completed the race. At start time there were two other unicycles entered as the train departed. I had my KH29 and Stormy was there on a Coker. When I heard there was a finisher, I figured someone had started early (a good idea with less traffic in town as well as on the passes).
My goal was Hermosa but I continued until the mineral springs about a mile past Honeyville. Stormy and I rode most of the way together. He kept going as I met my ride home at the bottom of Shalona Hill.
Congratulations to Tom! A great accomplishment. I’m curious what crank length you used on your Coker for the race and would you choose the same again?
Again, I predict that one day a unicyclist will beat the train–not sure how, but I expect some technological improvement that will allow it to be done.
