Today

Well, I got me a quick release. It seems to be a good one. We pushed real
hard on the seat and couldn’t get it to turn. It’ll be easy now to take
the seat off when I go into stores, so that it doesn’t get stolen. While
the guy in the shop was showing me some of the quick releases, and
ordering up some smaller cranks (I think 155mm or something like that,
I’ve got 175 now) one of his employees with a nametag that said “Hello, my
name is IRRELEVANT” tried it. (His real name was Chris. When he told me, I
went, “Kris Holm!??!??!?” Sadly he wasn’t.) Just as we were about through
he burst in and yelled happily, “I rode it ALL THE WAY around the block
TWO TIMES!!!” He had ridden a smaller unicycle before but not a Coker.

I chose steel cranks. The guy said they were a bit heavier than aluminum,
but they were also stronger, and less expensive! I have aluminum now,
but since the new ones will be smaller anyway, I don’t expect to notice a
huge difference.

One guy, just coming home from clown school he said, stopped me as I was
riding downtown. He asked me if what I was riding was a “choker”. Please
tell me that’s not how it’s pronounced.

I woke up this morning and felt like a two-year-old. But there wasn’t one
around so I went back to sleep.

A “Choker” is a necklace with no slack.

A “Cocker” is a guy who makes spastic motions when he sings.

“Coker” (pronounced like the drink + “er”) is the name of the company
making the Big One unicycle. Coker Tire has been around for a long
time, and specializes in making tires for antique and specialty
vehicles. I believe their entry into the bike business (outside of
tires) is very recent.
