Spot on!
I bought a bunch of them:
Would like to hang the Ikarus (at the top left corner) between the spokes, but it’s not as straight forward as I hoped for. The smurf is also pretty wide, so I can’t position it as far out as I’d like. We’ll see, maybe I have to buy a Superman Smurf since he’s the normal width and thus a better fit. I’m also thinking of painting one spoke yellow and then position the painter accordingly .
Originally, I just wanted to make a special valve cap…
Today I had my first ride of this year with the Schlumpf wheel and after a couple hundred meters it slowly began to feel familiar again .
This is a great idea! At least part of the spoke. And where do you intend to place the UPD-schlumpf? The very front of your handlebars?
You’re going to need more unicycles to mount all of them!
I don‘t UPD
UPDs happen to all of us…
Even though I could brag by saying that I haven’t UPDed once on the road since september (actually, it might have happenned, but my aerobars have not touched the ground even once in 6 months). On muni, it isn’t the case though
Funny thing, that… I typically am always wearing a helmet on my 36er, though on my last long ride I stopped to eat an energy bar and rest my legs a bit. While I was eating I was walking through a more crowded social area in town that I didn’t want to bother riding through, so I took my helmet off too.
Eventually I got to a bit of bike trail that was clear of pedestrians, so I figured I would just “carry” my helmet on my head (without buckling it in place ) while still munching on what was left of the energy bar. Later down the road, still wet from melting snow, I UPD’d after hitting a small pothole on the bike trail
Now thankfully I just landed on my feet, but imagine for a moment I did end up getting hurt and me explaining to a medical professional “Well I did have a helmet, and it was on my head, I just didn’t bother to fasten it”… Won’t be just dangling my helmet on my head again, even just for a moment while riding!
Today I had my fastest ride on a uni, ever. Twice . Second time was during the night and despite the darkness the whole experience was pretty much not frightening - not quite what I expected. I realised I set a personal record when I sat in a train and casually chimped with my cycle computer. I almost shouted out loud, such were the surprise and the joy.
EDIT: That was on the g29, in high gear, obviously.
I need to get a T-bar for that uni; I think that would help to ride the Schlumpf with more confidence. In the last weeks I have accumulated lots of stems and tubes and whatnot, but need to finally start creating something for either the g29 or the 36er and use my existing T-bar on the other uni.
Today, for the first time I made a 180° turn “on the spot” with my 36er. I was on a sidewalk when I realised that I needed/wanted to take a different route, thus had to ride back a few meters. So it was either dismount and remount or use the limited width of the sidewalk to turn around. I usually would make the smallest possible U-turn I can (about 3m or so) but since that wasn’t an option I decided to try and stop, then twist as long as needed to turn around. To my surprise it worked out perfectly well. Hopping would be my preferred way to do a 180° turn, but after removing the plastic handle in favour of the T-bar, that is not an option anymore with the 36er.
Also today (as well as a couple days ago) I did properly lean back during a brake assisted “emergency” braking on the 36er. It really helps a lot to keep the braking distance as short as possible.
Had another great session at the skate park today. Managed to cross a few other things off of my list of things to relearn. I was mostly focused on confidence today.
Im getting much more comfortable with rolling hops again. Managed multiple different hops from different angles onto the low manny pad. It’s only about curb high, but still feels good.
I pulled off a great low to high gap, about 18" wide with a 4" or so drop. Took some time for me to work up the courage to try it, but I landed it smooth first try.
I can finally drop in the 2ft quarter pipes again. The first time was scary, but after doing it once I was able to do it every other try, no matter my crank orientation.
Rode down a nice wide 4-stair. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to clear gaps that size in the future.
Also managed to jump down a nice euro gap into the bank. Fairly small gap, about 10" x 10" or so. The scariest part about that was jumping and landing on a slope. Next step will be getting confident enough to clear that euro going up.
Also pulled off some nice one foot to wheel walk combos and lines and some static 1spins.
Next time I think that a slightly taller quarterpipe and getting up a slightly higher manny pad are going to my goals. Along with hopefully 180s on flat and rolling 1spins.
I rode down a 9 stair the other day which beat my last record of 6.
