I thought some of you might be interested in seeing some of the transciption of ‘Rapunzel’ by Dave Matthews Band I’ve just started working on. It’s an amazing song that I must have heard at least 20 times by now all the way through, plus little snippets every now and then. I’ve realised recently how brilliant Carter Beauford is and that he is officially now my favourite drummer. His style is exactly what I’d love to be able to play.
Anyway, here are the first 8 bars or so of the song. I wasn’t sure what to call some of the time signatures. It’s amazing how crazy the timing is and yet it all flows so smoothly. The little (what I called) 7/16 bar they through in there really threw me. You need to hear the song to know what I’m talking about. It’s also played much faster than you’d think. I think I may have missed some little ghosts on the snare somewhere around the middle. I’ll look over it later.
Thank you for posting that, and please let us know when you get more transcribed!! Very cool, and thanks for bringing attention to that drummer.
If you want to check out another unique and interesting drummer that I just encountered in the NYC subways, check out www.shakerleg.com He doesn’t use sticks, but has a full set of cymbals!!
Now I have one minute of the six minute song transcribed. Unfortunately (or rather fortunately because it is one of the great qualities of the song in my opinion) you can’t get away with copying the verses and choruses because the drumming is different in all of them.

Edit - Just removed attachment because I noticed a mistake…fixing it now.
Fixed it up now I believe, plus an error in the 7/16 bit of the first part I did. The little 7/16 to 6/4 bit really threw me. They’ve snuck it in there cleverly.
Hey thats really interesting. I think I might have seen that guy once in Penn Station, but it could have been someone else.
Thats some really interesting drumming, I just finished watching the Video from Korea. Great stuff.
Andrew do you minde if i post your Tab on Drumerworld forum, in a thread dicusing tabing solos- song and how it is good for you playing and knowlge? Ill like them to you website.
