Tire Wear

I’ve been riding my Schwinn 24" for about six weeks now and have noticed that
the tire is wearing much more quickly at the portions closest to the pedals (TDC
and BDC). Is this normal or due to poor riding technique? If the latter, how do
I correct it?

Also, do any of you “rotate” your tire so that different parts are exposed to
the heaviest wear?

Any advice is appreciated.

This is mostly due to idling and mounting where one foot is downwards for a
longer time than in normal riding, hence the tire wear near the pedals. It may
also have a bit to do with your turning technique (if you do pirrouettes then it
will wear your tyre a lot too).

It’s normal for the tyre to wear at the two points you mention - but it can be
exacerbated by poor riding technique. If you’re “swinging” the unicycle around
corners rather than leaning into them, you’ll be scraping the tyre each time.

It’s always a good move to rotate the tyre 90 degrees before you lose all of
the tread on the bad patches.
