Does anybody know what a good tire pressure is for the Gazz 3.0" x 24" tire? Sometimes when I turn sharply, I find it hard to stay up. I guess part of that would be the knobbies, but I think part of it is that it is easy to depress the side of the tire and/or the boundary between the bottom and the side. So, as I lean, it can cave in a little.
I don’t know if tire pressure can help that, or if it is just something people with the Gazz have to learn to live with.
That made me realize that a) I don’t know what typical pressure ranges are on the Gazz, and b) I dont have a good pump, and certainly no way to guage the pressure.
Can anybody recommend anything about either concern?
While Lewis would propbably expressly like some one else’s opinion…
Generaly, technical skills that require a responsive wheel will benifit from high pressure. However, with your Gazz, high tire pressure will emphisize pitching from knobbies or tire profile (roundness)- an effect that will be magnified on pavement. As you know, the tire folding over or luffing out in a turn is a good indicator of low tire pressure. There are compermises to make here- at optimal hopping pressure the tire may verry well fold over in a heavy turn…
I enjoyed the pressure of your tire when last i rode it; however, I’m relatively scrawny, and you will probably like more pressure. The real anser to your question is to go out and sample a wide range of pressures under a veriety of ridding conditions. Pump that tire up hard, ride, let some air out, ride… find out what YOU like. Some jokers ride that wheel at 5 lbs!!! Advising you to ride it at that pressure would be as silly as telling you to ride at a pressure I prefer…

Re: Tire Pressure in a Gazz 3.0" x 24"? A good pump?
If you find it hard to stay up when you turn corners, you likely have the pressure too soft. For
me, the level of air pressure in my Gazz depends on what I’m doing. Where I ride, I mostly ascend
for a while, then go downhill all the way back to the trailhead. I always pump my tire up hard
for the ascent, and then let some pressure out at the top. Most bike riders do this as well.
For climbing, I pump it up quite hard (hard enough that there isn’t tons of give when you bounce
up and down). For descending I usually keep it as soft as possible without being so low that it
will fold or bottom out over drops. It isn’t very scientific but I usually let a bit of air out
and then test it by hopping on a small stick or root to see whether I bottom out.
