Thread of Useful Gallery Tips

Okay, I searched a little, and couldn’t find a thread with any info on designing a Gallery. I thought I had it pretty well figured out, but see that others have it figured out a little more than me. So if you have tips on not only setting up a gallery, but making it look good I am listening.

Currently I am trying to make the background of my Gallery Black. I had it black in the past, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to make it do that again. I typed black in the box under preferences that says background color, then hit apply…nothing.

I see that there are others that have differrent backgrounds, frames etc… How are you doing it?

my back ground was green once too, now it just flashes green then goes to the default grey???

tip: to move photo’s around click “reorder” it used to be re-arrange but now its re-order.

Check out my gallery. I make ample use of the Nested Gallery features, the backround alterations and column and row changes. My text is yellow too.

Just click my sigline.

The default background in the gallery, and the other default settings, comes from the “standalone_style.css” stylesheet. Here’s a link to the stylesheet:
http://gallery.unicyclist.com/skins/jenskin/css/standalone_style.css

The default background is the simplex-bkg.gif and it is overriding the color that you’re trying to set for the background.

In the Album Properties window enter the color you want for the background and text. Then for the Background Image (URL) enter something like “foo” to override the default background image. That way no background image will be loaded and you’ll see the solid background color that you had set.

The colors that you can enter are the standard HTML colors. You can enter one of the 16 predefined color names like Blue or enter the hex number like #0000FF to define a color. The link above will tell you more about HTML colors.

Search gallery?

On the subject of the gallery - is there a way to search it? I was looking for some of AspenMike’s earlier pictures, but the only way I could find was to look at every page until I found one of his galleries, or search the forum for his threads and get the links from there.

So am I just being a muppet - is there a way to search the gallery?

Re: Search gallery?

It used to have a search function, but it seems to have been removed unfortunately. I can’t tell you how many times I have forgotten my album name and had to go page by page. I don’t forget it anymore though.

As usual thanks for the help. Very informative.

Catboy… Nice Album. Thanks for letting us know how you did it. I was going to buy it, but decided to download it and save some money.

Re: Re: Search gallery?

Bummer :frowning:

ah the power of Foo! thanx.

EDIT: looks like the power of Foo must be summoned in every album.

Re: Search gallery?

The gallery used to have a search but Gilby had to remove it because it was crashing the gallery. This version of the gallery software has a really really braindead search routine and was not able to handle the large size of the gallery here. When Gilby upgrades to the new version of the gallery software we should get our gallery search back.

I hate reserecting old threads but, how do you make a gallery in the first place?

All the previous info in this thread is going to be wrong because the gallery changed drastically about a month ago. Things are different now.

Anyways, you should have gallery permissions to make a gallery for yourself.

Go here and look on the right side of the page. Make sure you’re logged in. There should be some light blue text on the right that says “Your Album”. Click that. That should take you to your gallery area which should be empty. Look on the left side of the page and click on the Add Items link. From there you can add items (pictures or videos) to your gallery.

Let us know if you can get that far. If you can get that far you’re all good to go.

Word.

I can make a gallery as a new nested album, but i have no clue how to make a totally new one. WTF dawg!?

Go to the gallery, click on user albums, then “your album”.

It’s really small.

Cool, I didn’t know you could have frames… I’ll have to try that out.

Oh…

My gallery is in different colors. So that still works…

You can make a new album in your main album. Eventually, I’d like to have symbolic links to people’s albums in an organized manor.
