  1. ASP is NOT a language - it is Microsoft’s version of CGI, a framework.

  2. VB (which most ASP sites are done in) is currently in an extremely
volatile state. MS has changed the language completely, gotten such bad
feedback about the changes, and now does not know what to do with it.

  3. It does not matter WHICH language you learn, as long as you learn
proper programming CONCEPTS. Once you learn how to PROGRAM properly,
you will be able to transfer your knowledge from one language to
    another very easily.

PHP is much better designed for webpage creation. The runtime has several
hundred built in functions doing almost anything you could want to do. ASP
has none of that, you have to buy 3rd party extentions to get even part of
the functionality PHP has. However, ASP is used more commonly by bigger
companies it seems so it is useful to know if your looking for a job.

And as others have said, strictly speaking ASP is not a language, it is
merely a pretty name (with a few nice added features) for CGI.
