This replaced the iPod mini, your thoughts?

iPod Nano

Here’s the info from Apple.com

MERCYME, next time, provide a better link. The link just goes to a picture of some Funkadelic ipods.

Realy sorry about that I forgot I had that on there, I sent those to my friends. Here is the iPod Nano

Does it do gapless playback of MP3s?
Is the battery replaceable?

It looks way cool. Now it’s seriously in the pocket category. First there was “pocket-sized.” Then there was “fits in your pocket.” Now we’re down to “I put it in my pocket and now I can’t find it in there!”

Kind of sucks how all the iPods now seem to be photo versions. So much for mine being special… but I still like my fat iPod, with its ability to fit all my music on there (so far).

There is actually a setting in iTunes to remove the gaps in live albums, you just have to look. And I am not sure about the replaceable battery.

Yeah now my iPod Mini is old school!!!

Is it a mini hard drive like the rest or a flash memory?

That option turns the selected tracks into one big file. That makes it impossible to skip right to a specific song if you wanted to. It would be just like fast forwarding a cassette tape. It’s a kludge. It’s not a proper solution or proper gapless playback.

It’s flash, I’ll probably get a refund for my shuffle after it “breaks” and get that since it will be nice to have a screen.

what’s the cheapest option for an ipod type dealy that can play videos?

Awesome, i want one of those for riding, that way it wont eat shit on a crash, flash has no movie parts.

None of the actual iPods play movies yet unless you hack them and install Linux

hmmm, i better email evil-linux-nick!

I believe that they’re working on an iPod that is video capable.

john-
from what i’ve been able to find, no the battery is not replaceable. probably like the regular ipod batteries that are 1/4 the cost of the thing and wear out surprisingly quickly.

me want.
me want badly.

I’m surprised they don’t have the iPod flea listed on their website yet.

There is a setting in iTunes to have zero seconds between tracks. That’s how I play mine. It seems to work, but the music has to be ripped to fit the zero second break, with no overlap, fade, etc.

Yes, I was amazed to read that it is indeed solid state (flash) memory. 4GB of flash memory for $249? Wow!

Was it in the shops yet, or just anounced to come out?
The Japanese allready have the disasembling pics online:
