now that i have your attention…
after my 6week hernia-hiatus (no, inguinal actually, but thanx for asking) i got back in the saddle last week and suddenly the flood-gates opened and uni-work have been coming in quite nicely
did a meet-and-greet at a function on wednesday night where i worked in the parking area and spent most of my time meeting cars at the gate to the venue and bidding them to follow me, led them to available parking bays
something i can recommend to clubs wanting to raise some funds, sell your services as novelty parking attendants
the smiles i got seemed to indicate that people enjoyed the idea
on saturday, i worked at the Currie Cup final
think the superbowl for (south african) rugby union and u’ll have a pretty good idea
i’ve done
something simmilar before
this was just at the season final
it was in Pretoria (about and hour’s drive) and i went with a fellow unicyclist so we could split the travelling
as we arrived at the place we had to park, my accelerator cable snapped
right away i realised that this was going to be fun
i decided to get the two hour gig out the way first and had a lot of fun playing around the entrance to the stadium with 6 stiltwalkers and another 5 unicyclists
went back to the car and started trying to figure a way of driving a car with an accelerator cable that snapped just where it joined the pedal
one of the other entertainers’ father told me about a spareshop that was open till 20h00, being in a strange city, i didn’t have much hope of finding it but neccesity being the mother of all sorts of interesting stuff…
i tried a couple of different ways of extending the stubb of cable that remained above the snap but met with very lil’ success
eventually i decided it would take some lateral thinking and managed to even impress myself
i took the choke cable and connected it to the carburator, allowing me to drive the car using the choke as an accelerator
we’ll it would’ve allowed me to drive to the spareshop had some idiot not parked accross the entrance to the area i’d parked in
fortunately, there was JUST enough space for my car to fit thru.
unfortunately, there was another car parked (legally) behind me that prevented me from getting my car at the exact angle to fit thru the very narrow gap.
fortunately, with the help of a passer-by, we managed to ‘bounce’ my car straight and set off for the spare shop
after stopping at several service stations to update our directions (i can be SO non-male sometimes…), we found the spareshop, bought the cable and set about trying to figure out how to fit one of those monsters
i have to add at this stage that wiring a plug and programming a VCR is pretty much the pinnacle of my technical/mechanical abilities
with neccesity peering over my shoulder like a bad hangover, i managed to figure out that fitting an accelerator cable is not really a big deal and we were on our way
somehow it was more fun this way…
