Silly things do cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way.
– Jane Austen, Emma
maybe it’s just me but i think that will rock on a T-shirt
with some woman in ‘period’ dress draped accross a trials uni a’la the T-shirt that caused all that ruckus a while ago
Although I do have a bone to pick with Jane Austen. Our daughter, Emma, was conceived and named about 2 years before the American Jane Austen renaissance of the mid-nineties. Austen, as well as Goldman, Lazarus, Bovary, Thompson, and Peel provided inspiration for our choice of name for our daughter. But once the mania hit, (P&P and S&S came out in 1995 and Emma in 1996) dozens of little Emmas started springing up all over the northeast. Hmm, but noting all that would be threadjacking, wouldn’t it?
I agree, that’s a really good quotation. My parents don’t like it when I do something out of the ordinary, like wear shoes without socks, or eat my peas with a spoon. But I’m sensible, and those actions really do make sense!
silly things in general i suspect
not sure if uni’s were around when she wrote her stuff?
i just couldn’t help but think it would be a brilliant retort to some muscle-bound moron deciding to point out to a uni-rider that unicycling was really silly
the T-shirt idea came after that
