If I miss checking back here for a 3 day weekend like the one we just had, I’m amazed to find that the last thread I participated in is like on page 8. This has got to be one of the most active forums on the net. And for such a small and specialized subject matter too:)
Just proof of how passionate unicyclists are about their hobby/profession/avocation.
Some of the other forums I participate in (Volkswagens, BMW motorcycles, adventure travel) don’t get nearly the traffic. Sometimes the same damn threads will be on the first page for weeks.
Unicyclists are an amazing, diverse, intelligent, and interesting bunch with lots to say and a lot of enthusiasm for what they do.
Anybody else participate in a forum that even comes close?
I used to be in a forum that had a heck of a lot of people, but I didn’t really like it because it did move so fast…it was more impersonal. Somehow unicyclist.com has been able to get big, but we still know each other.
What VW forum are you a part of, because the one that I’m a part of puts the traffic in this forum to shame. It’s the VWVortex.com, currently the 10th largest forum on the internet.
Unless there are like 8 politics threads, 5 religion threads, and 15 LOL BBQ threads, Internet forums seem to self-regulate their activity. At some point, when it becomes too impersonal, some people become too overwhelmed and bail, at least for a while. I don’t think most people care to wade through pages and pages of fluff unless the topics are compelling enough.
I really love this forum, and for exactly the reasons James Potter said.
I used to be a regular at xtremesystems.org (high performance computing and overclocking), but it’s all about proving how big your testicles are rather than just enjoying yourself. That and there are a lot more people there in the last year.
I prefer the friendliness and comraderie of unicyclist.com.
Ya there’s a couple sites that keep a record of the largest forums on the internet, the requirement is that it has to have at least 500,000 posts, so Unicyclist.com doesn’t qualify… yet.
When I first started posting to this forum via the newsgroup (rec.sport.unicycling) I was able to read every new post, every day. Now, there is no way in hell I can do that. This forum has grown immensely in just a few years, and seems to continue to grow at an alarming rate.
I sort of miss the old days, where I could read everything, but I would soon find that I had read all of the posts and had to go outside and actually ride.
it would be cool if there was a forum for the whole internet, where everyone talked on it that was on the internet, that would be cool if it ever got really big
