It seems like every week the students here on campus are out protesting something different. Now it’s time for the semiannual Taco Bell boycott (see http://www.ciw-online.org). A bunch of students with nothing better to do on a Friday afternoon are going to stand outside Taco Bell and wave their flags and shout their slogans.
I’ve got a few issues with this protest…
With all the oppression, genocide and war going on in this world, why pick this fight? The email address on the flyer is “non_american@_____.com” leading me to believe that these kids just hate large corporations and they’re glomming onto this cause 'cause it fuels their hate.
Furthermore, Taco Bell just reached an agreement with the CIW (Coalition of Immokalee Workers) to improve conditions for the farm workers. The movement has achieved its end; there is no more need to protest Taco Bell. TB only consumes less than 1% of Florida’s tomato production… what about the other 99%? We don’t hear anything about these consumers! Hmmm…
Issues aside, I need some fuel for my anti-hate. I want to
take issue with the protesters and find out if anyone has actually done any research before forming such a passionate opinion. I also want to find out why kids are rallying in favor of farm workers on the other side of the continent when there are thousands of people in similar plights right here in our home town. I doubt I’ll get any intelligent response… we’ll see.
Does anyone have any good anti-propaganda techniques they’d like to share?
For one, I plan to buy loads of tomato-laden Taco Bell food and hand it out to passers-by at the protest. I will also hand out copies of TB’s agreement with CIW to the protesters to let them know their efforts are useless. I might even carry a sign saying “Work less! Protest more!” or something…
Just screw with them. There were some stupid big time jesus kids that were protesting this concert. So we just laughed at them, threw stuff, and acted like a**holes until they went away. Not very nice or mature, but sure mkes them leave!
Were they just simply against the growing trend of globalisation (is that with an s or z). Cause if they’re just protesting against a big company, that’s stupid. But if they were to be protesting globalisation, and were able to weigh atleast 3 pros and cons for the movement, then I’d give them atleast some merit.
Oh I know what to do- get a bunch of hobos and buy a bunch of taco bell for them, and make them eat it infront of the lame protesters. so you are heling people that relly need help and anti protesting at the same time.
My “cause” here is not the laborers. It is the poor lost sheep that attend my alma mater, then go out in public and act like complete dimwits.
If I find that there are some informed people in the crowd, then perhaps I will learn a lesson. If not, I hope to send them a “wake up” call. Either way, there’s gonna be a lot of happy hobos enjoying free food in front of Taco Bell
I see it this way… I pray at the church of Taco Bell, and some heretics are trying to defile my temple. There will be no veggie-inquisition! I will put an end to the anti-preservative movement!
no reason why u can’t protest their protest and do so peacefully
and if u get to enter into intelligent debate with someone from the other side, who knows, u might just share enough information to start moving your opinions closer together and a lot closer to making a difference
just remember to take your uni and a loudhailer
they won’t know what hit them
