The Road to Reality, and you!

Has anyone read this book? It’s quite hefty–around 1,000 pages.

The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe by Roger Penrose

Despite its somewhat pretentious title (by my estimation), I’ve been wanting to read it. So I finally ordered a discounted copy through abebooks.com, and it came in the mail today. With it is a flyer indicating that this copy was a “review copy,” and it also came with a glossy black and white photo of Roger Penrose! I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with the photo. Maybe I should auction it off on ebay?

Just remember the first Law of the Universe: Ignorance of the Law is no excuse.

Where are all the lovers of physics? Doesn’t anyone want to sing the praises of Plato’s world of forms or express zeal for the theory of everything? Chant after me, “We love string theory! We love string theory! We can’t test it, but we still love it Mr. Popper!” I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes though. I’m a string theory universalist! All versions of string theory are valuable. :stuck_out_tongue:

Theory [n]: An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture.

Everyone’s experience of reality is unique. What’s the point in developing an all-encompassing theory when such theory is based on one’s limited view of the universe?

I’d rather live life than sit around and talk about it. Philosophers, eat my shorts. Meh.

But, for a philosopher, talking about life is life.

Dave (Gild),

Regarding your PMs to me…

See above.

Fondly,

Billy
