chatting to a colleague of mine this afternoon, a man blessed with a wonderfully deep and resonant voice
the kind of voice that makes sense of the word mellifluous
the kind of voice that makes Johnny Cash, Larry King and James Earl Jones jealous
the kind of voice that just begs to do a cover of the famous (i hope u had the same ads) Lexington ad
the one with the pay-off line
“Lexington, Th a a a a t’s the One”
an ad, he tells me, that got him to start smoking Lexington
which reminded me of an ad for Stoney Ginger Beer that flighted in the early days of South African television
it centred around a thumping drum beat and showed a variety of muscled, sweating drummers drenching themselves and quenching their thirsts with Stoney Ginger Beer
i can remember actually going out and buying a Stoney just because i like the drum beat in the ad so much
and hating the drink, at the time
(mmm, still don’t have much of a taste for it now that u mention it)
which brings me to this weeks Gild Is Bored At Work Again Question (GIBAWAQ - sounds like a theatre of operation in a current war, doesn’t it?)
Which product(s) did u try strictly because u liked the ad?
(and guys, if the answer is Wonderbra, i dont want to hear about it, ok? TMI )
