you can order one from HBtrials still, just because they’re in canada doesn’t mean the shipping is outrageous
According to www.tartybikes.co.uk
The weights on the following tires are:
Maxxis Creepy Crawler 1042 g
Try-all Stiky 1113 g
Monty Eagle Claw “approx 1100 g”
I guess my impression of the weight of the EC was incorrect. It seems to be roughly the same as my old Try-all.
Monty Eagle Claw 20x2.6" 1035g
Luna 20x2.5" 1260g
Sticky Finger Trials 20x2.5" 1150g
Creepy Crawler 20x2.5" 1020g
Try-All Stiky 20x2.5" 1120g
UDC tire table.
Anyone have any insight on effects of changing the direction of a tryall tire. Which way is gonna give less roll resistance. I would think that forwards is gonna give better grip but fight the roll more.
all you street riders out there, is there anydifference in a shaved tire, i mean like is a shaved luna better than a shaved tryall or is an echo better than both? Im planning on getting a new tire not sure if im gonna save it or shave it, if tryalls are better shaved then ill get a tryall an ride it for a while then shave it and get a new tryall
tryalls are definantly the best for shaving.
Why is that? Any logic behind that statement? I’m not being rude, I want to know because my shaven CC wont last forever.
From what luke says about his shaved Luna, I would have to say that a shaved Luna is gonna last longer than a shaved Tryall. The feel of the luna makes me think that is might be a tad heavier and feel very solid. I have only ridden a shaved Tryall and it wore into the threads in about 3 months, it was very soft and light.
All and all, after moving back to a tire with treads, I wouldnt go out and buy a tire to shave. There is very little that is supiror about a shaved tire. You have less roll resistance which feels nice, and you save a bit of weight. you allso have less controll and less grip. Shaved tires are fun, but a tire with tread performs much better, IMO.
Not true at all, it depends what surface you’re riding on… there have been debates about it before. You’d only have less grip on off road surfaces, or surfaces with loose material on them. (therefore shaved tyres are good for most things in urban areas.
allright, that has me about sure on just getting a tryall and waiting for it to wear and then shaving it…thanks
Theroy and reality are two different things. A shaved tire has less grip in or out of urban areas. Yes a shaved tire will grip pretty well on flat pavement, tho a knoby tire will do it better. With smooth surfaces you run into the problem of having dirt, dust, water… any of those will make for a slipper ride. If you have a stock tire those things matter much much less. There is no way in hell a shaved tire has more grip, in any situation. A tire that was desinged to be smooth will work well in urban settings and may have more grip in some situations. A shved trials tire is pretty gripless and even if its working fine, what happens when you want to jump up on that marble ledge or a skatelite box with your dirty dusty tire?
I agree with you. It does make muni really fun once your tire dusts up and your sliding more than you’re riding. Scarred me the first time I slid off a ledge instead of riding off it. =p
Besides, how many times do people have their tire slip on asphalt?
I disagree, shaven has more grip on flat because there’s more of the tyre touching the ground. Of course they don’t have much grip off road, but having a slick tyre is not meant for off road. it’s meant for street riding.
My friend has the exact same uni as me, except he doesn’t have a shaven tyre and mine is soooooooooo much easier to do street tricks one. I would never go back to knobby tyres, (unless I switch to trials).
Guys get over it. A shaved tire is not more grippy, not even on flat surfaces. It doesnt have to do with “how much rubber is touching the ground” its about shape of rubber and angles of the nubs. Think about it… Yes rubber is sticky but rubber that makes right angles and weird shapes folds around and contours to the ground, grabs and stops the tire from slipping. A slick tire just rolls and spins wherever, you are counting on the meterial to grip for you, which in most urban settings will be smooth and qucik, easy to pivot and roll. Go take your shave tire to a tile floor and tell me its gripping better then a knoby tire on the same floor.
I dont know this for sure but I would put my money on that a dual compound tire(having two differnt rubbers, one softer and one harder) has the soft “grippy” rubber for the nubs, and the harder less grippy rubber for the body. Ive wondered abou this a bit and maybe someone can help clear it up.
Sorry for above. server slowed down. Didint think it posted, somehow I got the feeling I should copy and paste.

With a shaved tire I can spin a 360 right on the ground, I def cant with a fresh nubby tire.

The reason that your tire is easier to land tricks on, besides the fact that you are use to it, is that it has less roll resistance and is much smoother, quicker, and precise. Things that most street riders want.
Served.
I said that a while ago in a thread where there was previous discussion about this, but I can’t find it The.Mars.Volta, you posted after me… do you remember what thread it was?
I do think it’s quite possible too.
Ive thought this too, cause after my CC was worn down to what it would be at if I shaved it, it has stopped wearing down. No threads are showing. =p
lol… this is so funny…
shaved tires are just a fashion over function thing nowadays tbh, most ppl just do it cos everyone else.
jerrick i dont think u get it… threads should be showing on da sidewalls. threads dont tend to show up on the centre of the tyre until it gets properly bald. if threads are appearing on ur sidewalls u hav a freak tire
No, I get it perfectly. No thread on my tire in any location.
My point was, my tire is bald, and has been for months now, and you would think that after months of riding on a bald/shaved tire, that I would be seeing threads even on the center (as other riders using different tires have seen).
