The Office (BBC)

The original Office (bbc version) is probably the best tv series of all time. Well not of all time, but it is up there! Seriously, how amazing is this show! For those of you who have seen it what are your favorite moments?

I haven’t seen the original version but I always watch the one that comes on on Tuesdays. It’s really good to me but others think it isn’t that great

The US version of the office is absolutely shithouse!
Luckily enough i’ve seen both. Best moment is the stapler in jelly HILARIOUS!
Mark

I love the original and was looking forward to be disappointed by the American version, but I am liking it quite a bit.

Favourite moment?

Most everything after the opening credits really.
Probably when Gervais turned down an offer from the Slough Council to act as ‘cultural ambassador’ for Slough.

Here’s a pretty kewl site ref The Office.
(Complete with a looong study about staplers in jelly.)

I love when Garreth is on the phone with Oggie, and is like “Oggie oggie, oi oi, oggie oggie, <pause>, oggie oggie, oi oi”. So Tim says after “Do you still keep in touch with oggie?” Garreth replies happily…“That was Oggie, just then!”.

Amazing.

Thanks for the site, I just downloaded the song from the credits, i love that song.

Are you going to use it as a ringtone on your cellphone?

My cellular telephone isnt that up to date, so it doesnt have that ability.

Its a good show though I dont know the show that well. No favorites to add.

Yes, i was going to say the stapler in jelly, “I don’t trust the way it moves.” I’ve seen about 30 seconds of the US version, but that was ernough for it to seem a little weak.

I have low ‘cringe’ tolerance. The show is too ‘cringey’ for me.
(Well someone had to disagree).

Cathy

No, I admit to not enjoying the programme either.

Now, Red Dwarf, on the other hand… that is proper British comedy.

Phil

(After Tim throws Gareths stapler out the window)
Gareth - “What if that hit someone?”
Tim - “Well its got your name on it…”

EDIT: Red Dwarf… what a piece of comic genius. The American remake was again rubbish, the original is a british classic:
Holly - “Dave, everyones dead”
Dave - “What? Even Peterson?”
Holly - “Dave, everyone’s dead. Everyone’s dead Dave, dead Dave everyone’s, everyone’s Dave dead, Dave dead everyone’s”
Dave - “Kochanski?”

Loose.

I have never seen red dwarf, maybe I should check it out. And yes, I think the American version of the office is pretty bad.

I agree. It’s a great show. I rented the first two seasons awhile back. Loved it.

It’s like Dilbert in a way… only with DRAMA!

YESSS!!! That show was awesome! It use to show at around midnight on PBS here (right before robot wars, starring the same guy), but they stopped. Does it still show? I know I saw some episodes on dvd at our videostore, but they were $40 for about 5 episodes.

Another great show! The only decent translation of anything to TV I’ve ever seen.

Actually I don’t think there’s a lot of funny stuff on TV these days. I can’t remember the last time I REALLY laughed at something on TV (other than the completely biased presentation of the ‘news’).

Cathy

I would not dispute the ‘cringeyness’ of that show. And I did experience some episodes as heading towards my ‘too’ line.
The cringe does set you up for the jokes rather nicely. After an especially cringey Brent moment, you’re almost relieved to see Gareth and Tim in the next shot because you know it’s going to be something so leftfield funny that you’ll feel much better. ‘Spoonfull of sugar…’
I’ll conclude this paragraph by saying ‘It’s multifaceted stuff’ only if you promise to know that I’m not being patronising. Deal?

From what I’ve seen and heard, ‘HUFF’ could be one of the better things to come out for a while
I’ve heard it compared to ‘6 Feet Under’ in terms of finding comedy in situations wher you should know better than to expect a laugh.
Apart from that, pickings have been slim from US shores. John Goodman’s insanely clever and funny ‘Normal, Ohio’ was pulled after only the first 7 episodes of it’s first season were broadcast.
We we’re fortunate to see the whole season in SA.

The whole situation is rather strange. With so many of the major shows closing shop (Frasier, Friends, SATC, Raymond and Will and Grace starts there last season soon) there must be a glut of proven, funny writers looking for work?

Have you tried Dead Ringers? In my opinion that’s probably the funniest thing I’ve seen for a while…
