The New Improved KH26 Muni

Hey guys, you may have seen my kh26" I made on the thread below, but now I put a Large Marge on it.

I build the wheel myself. I did 3 cross with 14 gauge Marwi spokes. It wasn’t that hard to do, so all of you who are thinking about doing it…go for it. I read Sheldon Browns website before I started, and build it up. The truiing was the hardest part. Oh and getting the tire on the rim afterwards was hard too! lol.

I had to make another mount to make the brakes go out farther because of the rims huge wideness. Got that done. Its kindoff conglamored in the brake area from so many adapters and mounts and stuff, but thats what you get if you want to use a brake with a 29" frame, and 26" rim.

SPECS

29" KH frame
Large Marge Rim(14gauge Marwi spokes)
Profile hub(175mm cranks)
Gazz tire 3.0"
Jimmy C. Pedals
KH gel seat
KH aluminum traditional seat post
Magura hydraulic brake with steel braided hoses
Odyssey seatpost clamp

I wont ever go back from a LM rim! I only rode it one day so far, and I can already say that.

I took it down some stairs and usually could feel every stair.(with old AlexDX32 rim)
The LM soaked it up like nuthing. It felt like a quick kinda bumpy hill. Im very impressed. I though because of its weight I wouldn’t be able to hop good…wrong. I can hop just as good as before. The rim alows you to ride with lower pressure, so your hopping is bouncier. I have the pressure way lower than I did on my Alex Dx32 rim, and I can sidehop without any folding at all. If you put it really really low it will fold, but it will never fold off the rim or anything like that. It just feels all together more stable than any other rim Ive rode on. It makes the tire much wider too. The sidewalls stick out farther than the tread part. I would seriously recommend this rim to anyone who is thinking about geting one for Muni.

Nice job. A killer muni, for sure!

Nice!

did I ever tell you that I love you?

I’ve ridden it!

But the new rim looks cool. It just looks better. Wow cool-ee!

Damn Seth thats a sweet ride. Too bad you didn’t bring it out to Moab, I would have loved to try it out.

I thought there was some kind of attraction…lol

Yeah, I think you rode it at the skate part forrest.

Nathan, go to moab next year again and I bring this puppy along.

Exactly the Muni I want to build.

Well except for the Profiles, I’d rather have the KH Moments.

How much does it weigh now?

It was 16 pounds before?

Before without the large marge rim it weighed about 16.5 lbs. now it probably weighs about 17.5lbs. But I dont even notice the extra weight when riding, only when I pick the uni up.

thats a very sweet set up. i’m thinking of doing a 26" with a 29" frame set up with a gazz… they look sweet and i want a distance/muni uni

Question to Mr Holm:
Why don’t you make any KH26" stock? Or a KH 26" frame would be cool to.
It would be awsome, because you can use any 26" bike rim and tire.

Peter M

It would be nice to have a 26" KH frame, but the 29er frame works really good, the only problem is the brake mounts dont line up…but as you see, that can also be fixed. I dont think Ill ever be going back to 24" Muni, or switching back from the LM rim to regular rim again.

Imagine if it came in a 19" version. Or even a 20".

Hey Musketman, I followed your lead!

I just bought a KH 29" frame and put my Nimbus 24x3 wheel/tire on it. I wondered what a 29" frame would look like with the smaller wheel, but it looks fine.

I know I end up without a splined hub, but I am mostly out to lighten my uni, and I don’t do drops.

I used those UDC bearing spacers to adapt the Nimbus Muni 40mm wheel bearings to the 42mm KH frame. I noticed that I need to tighten the frame bearing holders tight enough to cause very slight bearing drag before the wheel with the 3" wide Gazzaloddi tire didn’t shift and rub the frame. I can’t wait till it stops raining so I can get out and prove those spacers have a solid hold on that wheel, I think they do.

I ordered the frame Tuesday afternoon from Roger at UDC UK, it arrived here in the states Friday! Amazing! That KH frame is a light weight beauty.

Why did you choose the KH 29" frame over the KH 24" frame?

mayeb hes planning on going bigger sometime soon… but that is weird… getting a 29" frame for a 24"

I have a KH 29 and I am so tempted to get a 26 wheel to swap over to for trails that require it.

Once I have my coker I guess I won’t use the 29 much.

So this could be an extremely good plan…

That Large Marge looks awesome. Like something off a Russian tank!

Indeed it does, and the weight is similar too.

So you’re from Oxford?

I ride at a club near Oxford in Wallingford.

But mainly I ride muni in bucks/oxfordshire.

Know any good trails?

The only muni I’ve found within riding distance is out at shotover park, it’s a forrest on a hillside with a myriad of paths and jumps, popular with mountain bikers and cross-country runners. I ride coker down by the river aswell. PM me if you want more information.
