The Movie Thread

Post your movie reviews and stuff here. Let’s just keep it going until the internet dies.

I saw “Little Children” recently. A very good movie, another in the genre of movies with 3 interweaving stories. Highly recommended. My only question is: Why was the babysitter so angry upon mother’s return from an overnight?

Saw The Black Dahlia on DVD. It was too completely confusing. Neither me nor my wife could follow it. The movie had major problems. Don’t bother!

Going to see the years BEST PICTURE: Pan’s Labyrinth! I’ll let you know how it goes.

We watched Princess Diaries II last night at our New Year’s lock-in at the church. Very fun movie.

(Sorry, I’m pretty simple as far as movies go)

I quite fancy that one too.
If you like it, check out Hellboy and The Devil’s Backbone.

I watched Way Out West last night.

Some of the gags were a little predictable, but there were some fantastically whimsical moments (when Ollie flicks his thumb and is startled when it catches fire; when the mule ends up on the balcony; when the villain is suspended in his bedsheet from the light fitting), a great dance routine, and of course the classic song, On the Trail of the Lonesome Pine. This must be one of the best early examples of dubbing, with Laurel’s lip synching absolutely spot on in the bass part and in the falsetto part. Great fun and highly recommended.

We both liked Pans labyrinth! Very much!

Do these other movies mix actual history with fantasy? Pan’s takes place in 1941 Spain under Franco, with a brutal army trying to clean out the resistance in the mountains, and the child using fantasy to excape the brutality. Exquisite fantasy!! harsh reality, too harsh for those under age 14. No sex. And Spanish with subtitles.

I love the old silent movies–Laurel and Hardy–precursor to the Honeymooners. But Chaplin is my love and hero!

Yesterday my dad and sister and I saw Night at the Museum, it was SO SO GOOD (: It’s about a guy who gets a job as a night guard at the Museum of Natural History, and he discovers that due to the tablet of Akman-Ra, everything in the museum comes to life at night. It has Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, and it’s very PG, just a fun ridiculous family movie kinda thing…yeah.
Everyone should go see it.

Has anyone seen Casino Royale?

James_Potter,
Night at the Museum was one of the best movies I have seen in a while… did you like Robin Williams in it?

yeah, not the normal james bond movie, it was a bit of a let down. no cool gadgets and very few nice cars. they put some funny parts in it. alot of poker and talking to some chick, bad ending and crappy movie. (my opinion)

Yes, and I loved it. I thought it was better than all the other movies, because it actually had a plot. And character development. ( :astonished: ). I recommend it to anyone who likes Bond movies.

Wow, the last 2 posts are quite contridictary…

I like the movie “TombStone”. I like the cowboy movies. Wyett Earp and Doc Holiday kick some butt in there.

Yeah, I normally don’t like his acting very much, but in this one he was really good (:

I loved Casino Royale. There were so many twists in it and I thought James Bond was sprung for a while, there.

I haven’t seen Casino Royale… I have heard it was OK though.

Agrreed. Best Bond movie to date.

Hellboy is an out and out comic book movie. Del Toro was a huge fan of Mike Mignola’s Hellboy from way back (If you look closely you can see one of the guys in Blade 2 is wearing a BPRD t-shirt).
The Devil’s Backbone is set in an orphanage during the Spanish Civil War and is a cracking old-school ghost story. Watch it with the lights out.

My wife and I went to see this over the weekend. We enjoyed it though it was not one of the best movies we’ve seen.

Question: Do all comedies, live action and animated, now have to end with the cast dancing to a song from the 60s, 70s, or 80s?

I just saw Casino Royale and I think it was pretty damn good. That being said, it is very different from previous bond movies, but that should be expected as I believe it is the first in the series.

The only part I didn’t like was the torture scene, mainly because I don’t like sadistic parts in movies because well they are sadistic, anyone who takes pleasure in seeing someone being hurt or enjoys watching someone take pleasure in it, is pretty messed in my mind.

Fortunatly the scene wasn’t that long so I guess it was somewhat tastefully done. I found that the movie was very different but because James Bond is still a developping character in the earlier books it would make sense that his attitudes and stuff would be rather different, not to mention Ian Flemings writing styles may have changed while writing them. This one is certainly much more violent than previous ones, but that may also be that violence is more accepted by the public now (which is sad).

I pretty much agree. This new Bond has ZERO charisma, IMO.
