Does any one find the growing waist line of our nation’s very worrying and sick. I don’t like fat people I know that sound’s really as thought I hate all fat people which is kind of true but I don’t like there attitude towards life and the fact that the moan that they are fat but will not do anything about it, we have a great gym at our school which I used all of last year, not so much this year because of work or other reasons eg no kit or people to go in with but no f.m’s (fat moaners) use. I only like one fat person I know as he does loads of sports and is a really nice guy, this may sound really horrible but it’s just the way I feel towards people who moan about there weight but do nothing. For example a over weight girl today at lunch was send txt messages to my friend instead of walking a 100m’s or so to tell her face to face I think this was just so lazy or this other person on my bus he drinks, smokes does no exercise he is going to die at 30 at the oldest but he still does nothing this makes me sick. We are the first generation with a lower life expectancy in 100 year’s I think this is just amazingly scary. I think that being over weight should never be seen as normal, but it’s wrong to be nasty to over weight people and I would never take the piss out of an over weight though as that is very wrong.
What are your views on the subject ?
Ben
Well my opinions are that they should get a life, but have you tried telling them that? it doesnt work most of the time. Its mainly self motivation. Im lucky im from a family where no one is fat and were all small and skinny.
Were getting lazy because we have all these things that do stuff for us. Like the computer for instance, i would be out running or something if the computer wasnt here but yet i stay in this chair writing this reply. Anyway if there not your friends and they dont care about it, dont care about them.

Ben, the issues you raise cover a wide range of topics including matters of personal responsibility, genetics, trends towards the consumption of prepared foods rather than the preparing of food in the home, advertising, and the fact that Twinkies just taste so damn good. There are no easy answers.
Your own feelings towards the overweight are between you, your conscience and your God. Look deep inside and see what you come up with.
Like you though I am often appalled that people will park at one end of a strip mall and then after coming out of a store drive the few hundred feet to the next store rather than walking.
For the record, I am overweight, though not horribly so and certainly not lazy or inactive.

Our world is based around quick fixes and easy answers. Hungry? Drive to McDonald’s, sit in your car, and they’ll hand you your food. Need to go to work? Just drive there. Want to be entertained? Sit in front of your computer or TV, don’t do anything for hours. Now that’s entertainment!
Fortunately, we all are unicyclists, which is a good, healthy hobby (for most people). But we spend so much money on trying to make life as convenient as possible, but we don’t look at the consequences until they kill us.
By the way, obesity is a very complicated issue. I agree that it’s a very serious problem in our society, but to hate all fat people is a very extreme attitude. Annoyed would be a better feeling to have towards them. Hate is a very strong emotion, and should only be used in very rare cases.
Perhaps that’s the point. Could be the dinosaurs will end up having had a longer run than we will.

just for the record I am not over weight I am very active so much in the winter but in the summer i am out in the sea or riding or doing something most of the time.
I don’t dislike people because of there body shape, I don’t like over weight people because of there aspect on life eg i am fat ohh no i am fat i will have a cake that will make me feel better!
and the fact they are normally very un-happy people .
It sounds to me like you might be taking your metabolism, etc for granted. Having never been ‘fat’ it’s hard for some people to show any sympathy. Maybe you should look deeper into all the causes of overweight-ness. ‘They’ are not all lazy.
I have always been more on the skinny side but it’s hard not to have at least some friends who are overweight and it’s harder for a lot of them not to be overweight than you seem to realise.
I’m just trying to continue a friendly discussion here…not an argument.

Re: The laziness of our age
Not to stray too much, but what exactly does the italicized part of the above mean?
And perhaps you didn’t mean it as such, but turning “over weight” into a noun pretty much reduces an overweight person into that single characteristic to the exclusion of who that entire person might be. (Note my avoidance of words like “totality” and phrases like “holistic view” )

I went through high school with a guy who had severe asthma, and as a result could not do a lot of strenuous activities for long periods of time. But he tried. For example, when we had to go on a 2 km run in phys. ed. class, he did what he could, and walked the rest. Despite the fact that he was very over weight, I had a lot of respect for him based on his attitude towards his life.
On the other hand, I currently work with a guy who is quite easily 300 pounds overweight. He would be perfectly healthy were it not for his obesity. I have never heard anyone complain so much as he does. The job he does involves sitting for about 5-10 minutes at a time while the machine he operates does its thing, then he gets up for 1 minute (max; usually less than a minute) to switch a few things up, then hits the start button and sits down for 5 minutes, usually going to sleep when he sits (I can’t figure out for the life of me why he hasn’t been caught by anyone other than me and another one of my friends nearby). He refuses to do any other job in the place, and at home, he has every excuse in the book as to why he shouldn’t live a healthy lifestyle. I have abolutely no respect for him, and it seems that every day I see him doing his lazy job, the less respect I have (it’s pretty hard to lose respect when you have none in the first place, but this guy can even pull that off).
Has anyone ever read the book ‘Fat Land’? It’s the story about how the USA became the fattest country in the world. Very interesting, and quite depressing.
Re: The laziness of our age
We all have our black kettles, don’t we?

like andrew and trev, i’m blessed with a lightning fast metabolism resulting in me weighing the same as i did in 1983, despite an appetite that regularly drives my girlfriend up the wall in sheer ‘i-can’t-cook-enough’ frustration
seems to me that thinuniking’s main gripe is with people of the over-weight persuasion who complain about it but do nothing about it
in this, i do support him
i understand that obesity is a complex issue and i’m not likely to issue a blanket condemnation of people who have weight control problems
in africa, a disease named ‘diabesity’ is slowly taking on epidemic proportions
a diabetic disorder that has obesity as it’s main cause
(to differentiate from the other causes of diabetes)
i do believe that a percentage of weight problems and esp the massive numbers we’re now seeing in the developed world (where starvation-caused malnutrition isn’t an issue) can, and must, be traced back to lifestyle and diet
have nothing but fresh fruit till midday
see how u feel
(dave’s capsule two sentence solution to the world’s problems;) )
i think that Gild is the only person who got what I ment, I wrote that post in a little bit of a hurry and never read it back. I ment I never make fun of people who are fat, over weight what ever you want to call it.I know some people are fat,or what ever term you want be to use for reasons.some are just lazy and they are the people I don’t like.I know you should be happy with your body but if I was fat, over weight or what ever i would do something about it.the ironic thing is that I need to “fill out” a bit,
I am now doing about 90 press up’s in rep’s of 30 and 60 sit up’s on my abb craddle in rep’s of 30 every night. I used to do this but got injured and stoped then got out of the habbit, now i have started again I have noiced an improvement in my hoping height so I am happy
I don’t no what yoopers was talking about but if he was talking about spelling or grammer,I know I can’t spell ok English is not my strong point ok!!
Ben
I don’t believe that any definition of the word “irony” applies here. There is nothing ironic about someone who is underweight expressing dislike or frustration with those who are overweight.
Bruce was implying, I believe, that your inability to spell and use proper grammar, barring some condition such as dyslexia or a below average IQ, is a result of your own laziness and nothing else. Therein may reside some irony.

It would appear so…sorry.
Andrew
Raphael,
You is very smart…
Bruce
Ok so laziness is a bad thing, i’ve been lazy, it’s gotten me nowhere, lets all just not be lazy and go ride unicycles now, I wonder if it’s possible to be lazy while doing that? I guess thats one way to fall off, did anyone else notice this is all one sentance?
Andrew
no, it isn’t
there’s a question mark in there and punctualityly speaking, that means a full stop and the end of a sentence
what’s a sentance any way?
a jail term imposed on a ghost by a ‘medium’?
One of the most miserable things is that the consumption of sugar and other “quick” and “bad” carbonhydrates has increased a lot. If I remember correctly, here in Finland it has doubled in the last hundred years and I believe most of that rise has happened in the last thirty or forty years. These carbonhydrates are some of the worst things to create fat. Because your body uses them quickly and the amount of sugar in your blood raises quickly. Because your stomach still might feel empty after eating a lot of sugar you’ll still have to eat more and this creates excess amounts of energy, which body starts to store in you. And body’s way store energy is creating fat.
I try to get my energy from slower sources of carbonhydrates, like rye bread, dark macaroni and I try to avoid sugar. Of course I eat some sugar too, but not often. I also eat quite a lot of fat. Some people might say it’s not good for me to take a spoon of olive or rape (that plant) oil every day. It’s actually animal fat you should avoid, but you also need some animal fat for your body to work properly. Vegans use coconut oil or similar products to get animal type of fat.
Proteins are important to maintain muscle and create more muscle. I eat quite a lot of tuna fish and meat and other things that have a lot of protein in them. That’s mostly because I do some weight training, about three times a week I go to the gym to lift weights. I don’t folow an Atkin’s diet, not exactly even close to Atkin’s diet. That’s more for people who don’t exercise.
In my opinion it mostly depends on the persons self-discipline if he want’s to lose weight. Even by adjusting the food that you eat to the correct direction you can lose a lot of fat. Add some sports and you’ll build muscle at the same time. There are people who get fat easier than others, but you can’t gain fat unless you eat too much. It’s all about the amount of energy you get from food. If you gain more energy than your getting it slowly builds up as fat. If you’re eating less energy than your using your weight will go down. With the amounts of fat protein and carbonhydrates you adjust the way you lose weight. With a lot of proteins you won’t lose muscle and your weight will stay at the same level easier after the diet. If you eat lot of carbonhydrates you’ll usually lose some muscle too, and your weight gets up a little easier after the diet.
If someone is fat it’s not a problem to me, unless he’s pitying himself because of being fat and says that he can’t get the weight down. That’s something that you can do by eating less or doing more sports. If he has astma or some other disease I understand it, because he can’t do sports. If a person is fat and happy with it it’s okay to me.
yeah ok I am dyslexic that does not make me lazy it means I have to work 2 times harder then every one else so don’t you dare call me dumb or lazy!
Ben
