Meh.
That reeks of “PLZ BUY ME SO APPLE DOESN’T LOSE MONEY!!!”
Well that is the goal of any business.
But they don’t all sound like they’re being read by this guy on speed.
The phone is like 600 bucks, plus at least 60 a month for service, but don’t quote me on that. But it is really cool, the web browser is great for phones. It’s more of like a pocket Mac than a phone.
If it wasn’t a million dollars I would want one.
yes it does, buuuuuut I dont think apple is having a problem with money right now, you know with the whole iPod revolution. But hey I would buy one if it wasnt to expensive
The iphone appears to be exactly what I’ve been looking for for years now. Drool.
the blackbeary pearl and the LG chocolate will be now on sale for 29.95! lol:D
If you compared the iPhone to any other convergence device, the weak and strong points would come from the company’s specialization, computer technology versus telecommunications, and telecom looks like crap next to Apple as far as consumer aps are concerned.
But…
Battery life:
“Up to 5 hours Talk / Video / Browsing
Up to 16 hours Audio playback”
Storage:
“4GB or 8GB”
… it just seems like you would always be connected to an AC adaptor and, with photos, music, videos, and web browsing considered, at the storage capacity within a day.
I dont think apple would over look the battery life issue, I mean come on these people know what they are doin, and the 8 gigs is plenty, and we all know that they will come out with an expandable memory option. before we criticize lets see how it does on the market, and remember first generation anything is crap, my buddy recently got himself the new sony ericsson and it craped out in 3 days but thats why we have WARRANTIES!! YAYAAAYAYA
Apples stock price jumped like 7-8 dollars yesterday though. I think they’ll make a lot of money with this thing. I thought it was like $500…and thats not really too bad for what you are getting. Its essentially a little computer. But…i’m not getting one yet
Up to 5 hours of “talk” on a phone, but 16 hours of audio with an 8 gig max?
It’s very nice, just not practical-- yet.
It will be approx 150-160 GBP so its an easy price range. And there will most likly be 2 versions. A simple cheap version 150-160quid which will just be phone and pod. And a more expensive version with web browser etc etc.
Does anyone know who the ISP/Telephone service provider will be? $60/Month is a lot, I don’t care who you are. My cell phone service is $120/m for 3 phones (~$40/m/each) and we each get 1000minutes/m + free in-network calling + nights (7pm) + weekends. I wouldn’t imagine <whatever this network is) offering anything much better than that for an additional $20/m. I haven’t done much research on the iPhone, but from the pictures I’ve seen it looks really sweet. $500 or $600 is a bit too steep for me, but if the battery life is anything like the newer iPods (18hrs+) it’s not so bad. I doubt it will be that good, but, like you said, it’s still gen1 - they’ll improve. With a price like that I’d hope they would do something like what Gateway computers used to do (return your old one each year for the new one).
To repeat myself, it’s a sweet lookin’, actin’ peice of phone.
it still hurts to type with my ring finger
oh for sure its not practical, but its seems some of the best selling items didnt seem that practical at the time. take for instance the ipod when it came out it wasnt very portable or light it was a brick and it was huge but after time it became the norm. or when PALM came out with their phone it doesnt look practicall but for a business man its a little computer and phone and an audio player, so I guess the iphone is just a better version of the palm.
ME too, kinda.
I already have a Samsung Blackjack, and Video iPod. So I think I’ll wait a year untill they work out the kinks.
Another reason I am waiting a year or so…
At the Macworld keynote, with Cingular’s Sigman on stage with him, Jobs hinted again that the exclusive, multiyear partnership with Cingular would yield more phones that just the two iPhone models unveiled today. (The two are basically identical: A $499 device with four gigabytes of internal memory, and a $599 version with eight gigabytes.)
It all sounds very cool. I was wondering what was going to be unveiled at Macworld… now I want to go again. I went last year but I was all by myself and only had a floor pass so it wasn’t that interesting.
There is also the AppleTV device, which appears to be a wireless set-top box that will connect all your multimedia stuff to your TV (if you haven’t already) with a remote-controlled interface. That might be interesting for our house, for viewing photos BIG in the living room.
I’ve been waiting for a phone with a hard drive to come out, but so far nothing. I think the two main problems have been battery life and vibrations/drops vs. hard drive. Now we have solid state memory up to 8GB with much lower power requirements. If battery life is only 5 hrs for voice, that must mean with that big display on all the time, or computing apps on, or something else to suck up so much power. But 5 hrs is definitely not enough for standby. I imagine the 5 hrs applies to constant talking or computing with the thing, which is probably an acceptable amount. Jacquie and I charge our Sidekicks every night, more or less.
The thing I don’t like about all the new stuff coming out from apple is the touch screens. You would have to focus your eyes where you are pressing which is only ideal if you are sitting or standing still. Think about it as not feeling the keys on the keyboard. It would take a lot longer to find the keys
Can you replace the battery?
Will replacing the battery require even more kung fu than replacing an iPod battery?
