The Giver...

Who read this book ?

-Me

A couple years ago are two towns made it this thing where if you read the book the library gives you a pin and you wear the pin around town and talk to other people that are wearing the pin about the book.
I never read it though.

i read it several years ago, i recall it being a very good book however. Liked the idea of their society in general, it was a really good comparison to our society and people living their lives ignoring/unaware of all these other issues. The difference i suppose is that the people in the book listened to the giver.

I read that book many yonder years back. I can barly remember it exsept hte part when he goes tobbaganing. tis a good book

Read it in 5th grade. Good shit.

I remember reading it in 6th(?) grade. The only feature that really stood out about it for me is that the ending was a piece of crap. It was a pretty good book, but the artsy ending killed it.

yea, its a good book. i read it a while back as well, the ending leaves you in the dark though.

yeah ive read it quite a long time ago but i was just thinking about reading it again the other day good story.

:0

i read it also… about somekind of society with elders? correct? and they decide the “job” of all the other citizens and what not… i think thats it idk… could be a dif book. i do remember the end however where he is in the sled and he goes over the hill and sees the city.

yeah thats the right book.

wow you can read extremetrialist !???

I read it for school last year. Its kinda weird. Alright book though.

I like Gary Paulson’s books, like Hatchet, Brian’s Winter, GUTS, and The River. I have all of his books.

my friend went on hoiday to calafornia and brought it back and told me to read it coz it was brilliant, i read it and it was!

it was alright and i love books i was actually scared of their little community thing, it was like they were stuck in a communist utopia in the 19th century when everyone else was in the 21st

Very good book, too short though.

ah ! ah !..huh…it’s missing one…ah ! there you go !

I wouldn’t talk at your place, mister

EDIT : Julien, will you kill me 'cause my sig is from Shaun J. ?

I loved the book. I did, however, find the ending…unsatisfactory. But at the same time, I don’t think there was really a better way to end it. It would have been cool had he overthrown the society and made things…“normal” again.

The author apparently wrote a “sequel” to the book but it made absolutely no sense and didn’t relate to the first one. I never read the “second” one but the first was fantastic.

Anybody read Gathering Blue?
