The Gateway is officially open! [Re: The mailing list has moved]

Welcome to unicycling@winternet.com / rec.sport.unicycling! The gateway between
the Unicycling Mailing List and Newsgroup is now officially in operation as
stated in the rec.sport.unicycling RFD.

Everyone who was subscribed to unicycling@mcs.kent.edu Sunday evening 23 July
1995 is now subscribed to unicycling@winternet.com.

Many thanks are due to Terry Jones for starting the Unicycling Mailing List way
back around January 1993. Many thanks are also due to Beirne Konarski for
maintaining the list for a very long time and for writing, editing and
maintaining the FAQ. Beirne has done a wonderful job on the Unicycling Home Page
as well. Beirne will continue to maintain the FAQ and Home Page. Thanks to
everyone who has contributed to the mailing list, other unicycling resources on
the internet and to real world unicycling!

The following is Beirne Konarski’s “The mailing list has moved” message (for the
benefit of people reading rec.sport.unicycling and to make one minor correction
and a clarification):

>This is the last posting to the independent unicycling mailing list. Ken Fuchs
>(kfuchs@winternet.com) has graciously taken over the list and is running it
>with the benefit of Majordomo, a mailing list handling package. This should
>mean fewer bounced messages when you make a posting, and it also lets us take
>advantage of a mailing list->newsgroup gateway provided by the nice folks at
>site american.edu.

>This means that the newsgroup and mailing list now get the same messages, since
>anything posted to one of them goes to the other. Everyone that is part of the
>old list will now also be members of the new list. Here’s how to work with the
>new location:

>Posting:

>Post messages to unicycling@winternet.com

>Unsubscribing:

>I expect there will be a flurry of unsubscribing requests since many people
>prefer the newsgroup. DO NOT send unsubscribe requests to the posting address,
>or everyone in the newsgroup and the mailing list will see it and get annoyed.
>To unsubscribe, send the message:

>unsubscribe unicycling

in the body of an email message (commands in the subject line are ignored)

>to Majordomo@winternet.com

>If you have trouble unsubscribing, try sending the message “who” to

who unicycling (majordomo needs to know the name of the list)

>Majordomo@winternet.com. You will then receive a list of list members. See
>which address is yours, then send the message

>unsubscribe unicycling <address>

>to Majordomo@winternet.com.

>Majordomo: Majordomo provides a variety of handy features. If you would like
>some help, send the message “help” to Majordomo@winternet.com.

>Thanks to all of you who helped make the mailing list a success.
