Tonight in an epic battle, a long awaited parade of champions takes to the streets in a march toward Rochelle’s own Midwest Park where the Rochelle Hubs freshman soccer team will take on hometown rivals, the dynamic boys and girls of the Rochelle Middle School “A” team. This historic contest of the ages offers a fresh new twist this year as the Hubs gruff and tumble Coach Edwards squares off against the star midfielder of the RMS Royals, the big, the bad, the bold, the one and only Brad Edwards.
Coach Edwards’ freshmen have been diligently preparing for this day since the beginning of August. It will be their first challenge of the season, one that is sure to bring victory according to the coach.
On the other side of the field, Master Brad will seek to field a scheme that will ensure a victory is once again brought home to the motherland. In an interview, the young scrapper was heard to say, “You’re goin’ down, Dad!”
It’s sure to be a blazing sight to behold! Who will come out on top? Will Coach Edwards seize upon experience and wits and lead the Hubs to a win once again? Or will the Brad squad gather their game enough to come out on top? Is there an upset in the making? Either way, it’s sure to be a blazing sight to behold!
Holy hell… this could well be a new chapter in the history book. Did you realize, as a father, that your parenting might well be your own undoing? To raise a son that would rise up and smite his father with the flick of a foot?
If you’re alive after the match, please post details. We’re glued to our screens…
…actually, I’m chained to my desk. It’s another 50 hr. work week for me. Yecch.
As an aside to your aside, I think I’ve mentioned this before. The difference between rugby and soccer is that rugby is a brute’s game played by gentlemen and soccer is a gentleman’s game played by brutes.
Wait, I don’t understand.
It was Rochelle versus Rochelle. Wait, so you played yoopers or no?
Was it parents versus kids, or the high school versus the middle school.
I don’t really understand.
It was a surprisingly great game. The middle school has some excellent players that will be heading for the high school next fall. The talent keeps growing. Can’t wait for next year’s freshman team.
As for the game, the middle school team actually scored first, then we went back and forth for a two goal tie before the half. The middle school has actually played several games already and had their game put together. It was the very first time my freshman team has played together and didn’t show a very good first half. In the second half, we were able to put the first game jitters behind us and finished the game with the freshmen on top 4-2.
I just returned from this mornings Hubs games against Earlville. Our varsity team lost 5-1, pretty bad day for them. Following the varsity game, our JV team went down 4-1 for most of the match. Somehow we ended up scoring three goals in the last five minutes of the game and ended a nail-biter game in a 4-4 tie.
Brad is downtown Chicago this morning playing against the Chicago Kickers Soccer Club and at last report, Spectre was on top 1-0.
So four games in the last 16 hours…I’m ready for a relaxing weekend, what’s left of it.
