The "All New" Let's Not Debate Religion Thread

Let’s get the religious debate out of RSU.

I would like to make this the official place to not debate religion. No need to hijack threads to not debate religion (like the atheists, myself not included, have done in the past). Because this is the “official” place for that kind of discussion. Be nice.

Round One. Ding…

sitting here not debating religion

have you found Jesus yet?

Where do Atheists believe they go when they die? This is a serious question that I really would like those who consider themselves atheists to answer? Oh yeah, where do atheists believe that everything in the world came from? Please, only intelligent and serious answers only! There is enough flippant religious crap on this forum already!!!

TSK! TSK! TSK! I think somebody’s trying to debate religions here:( You should be ashamed. Let’s not debate politics here either. There are already way too many threads about that too. Most people tend to be at a loss for anything to talk about if they’re not talking about religion or politics.

Would it be OK to debate fabrics here? How about cotton vs. polyester?

Definitely cotton…polyster is fake and uncomfortable.

When I die, I die. I don’t “go” anywhere except into a box or an oven or shot into space or whatever they’ll do to me when I die. There’s nothing to it. Don’t feel bad, many people have a hard time with the concept of “nothingness”, but that’s what happens.

Recorded history goes back only a speck of the lifetime of the earth. In that time, we’ve seen so many things evolve - technology, societies, animals, ecosystems, etc. that it’s silly to assume that when you extend the timeline thousands of times over that great biological changes aren’t possible.

If you’re more curious about the “where did the universe come from” question, then I’m totally comfortable with the idea that human beings are simply not smart enough to be able to explain how it came about. We know what happened millionths of a second after the big bang, but are not sure about what happened when it happened - I’m confident that we’ll figure this out in time, but in no way does “not knowing right now” prove that it didn’t happen.

Only a few hundred years ago there was no such thing as electricity and gravity was a completely esoteric concept. Those things surely did exist even though we didn’t understand them at the time.

In my opinion, religion is a means to explain the things that rational thought and observation are not capable of explaining. Usually we find that over time science catches up and explainations are forthcoming, but that doesn’t mean that someone can’t come up with a new question that science does not yet understand.

Nobody will ever know all the answers - which is great, because we as a people better ourselves in trying to find them - but not all of them NEED answers. And making ones up that have zero basis in reality or observable fact helps noone.

This is in no way meant to offend anyone - just voicing my opinion.

TSK TSK TSK yourself! If you dont have answers you are willing to give, go find a forum about fabrics! I ask a legitimate ? for anyone to answer if they want! Once again your answer was “flippant”!

hey hey, i will not alow this in my thread go away!

definitly cotton, its natural, i dont do this man made crap

Thanks for an INTELLIGENT and polite answer!
Oh yea, this is a public thread even though you started it Habbywall! :astonished:

yeah. but did you not read the first post?

habbywall is merely pointing out that the purpose of this thread is to NOT debate religion. There is a (very) similar thread where the purpose is to debate religion. Everything has its place.

Although, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to actually do in this thread. habbywall?

well, im not sure what you do, maybe gilby does

Hey, I just found a great quote to take out of context:

This post for humorous purposes only. No personal offence intended.

Heh - none taken. Unlike many people, I can laugh at myself and the humor of others

OKAY:

Here is a way cool fact (of the scientific sort. I qualify to prevent any debate. It is not an absolute fact, just a scientific fact so Jesus people be quiet or you’ll have trouble freemounting and your “nut guard”/handle will droop and get loose and fall off when you are trying to impress a girl.)

The (scientific) Fact established on the basis of morphology, anatomy, physiology, genetics, ontogeny and phylogeny:
Elephants evolved from water adapted sea mammals that evolved from land adapted mammals, that evolved from aquatic vertebrates.

It’s just the most amazing example of the radiation of species and convergent and divergent evolution I have ever heard about!! Crazy! WOW!

Ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny.

P.S. I just posted this then I think I accidentally deleted it. Sorry if it shows up twice…

so not debating religion.
umm, then what are we supposed to do then?
like just sit around and twiddle our thumbs?
but no one can see you do that online. so… im sitting here not debating religion. instead i will be going and doing all of my stupid studying for finals and finishing up all my huge papers for the rest of the classes i have.

so, off i go to not discuss religion and hate my professors.

hahaha:D , I like your sense of humor!!!

Is that still being tought? I thought it was disproven.

Ontology Recapitulates Philology on the other hand…

I think of it just as an elegant model, I know it doesn’t always hold perfectly true. Fetal humans and embryonic fish look a lot alike tho…
