You know, when you let the air out of a tyre that’s been inflated for a while…
…why does it always smell of tuna?

… I’ve never noticed that before.
i have! i hate the smell of tuna
This smell is given off by a compound coated on the inside of the inner tube. The odour is to give advance warning of punctures, in the same way that natural gas (odourless methane) has a nasty smell added to it to warn of gas leaks.
So you’re riding along, you smell the tuna, you need to fix your tube. I thought everyone knew that.
Re: That smell…
Wait 'till our former King of Tuna hears what you have to say about tuna!

P.S. - I thought this was going to be another thread about bacon…
That’s because I don’t sneak up behind you eating a tuna sandwich every time you let air out of your tire. He he. Phil actually thinks his tyre smells like tuna! Bwaaahaaaaahaaaa!
Dave Lowell (uni57)
Duh. That’s why I never ride in parks at lunch time. Too many false positives.

Given I had my back to a window on the first floor, that’s pretty impressive sneaking! It is a good job you are a force of good rather than evil, or who knows what would happen.
Just in case you have returned to your native soil you may want to jump back on a plane, as I’ve just remembered I need to do the tyre again because some muppet forgot to put any rim tape on. Tch… some people. You want something doing right, you’ve got to give it to somebody else!

Re: Re: That smell…
Now there’s an idea… tyres that smell of bacon…
Actually scratch that, I’d be riding over thorns and broken glass all the time just to get punctures to fix…

Re: Re: Re: That smell…
Not sure what shape YOUR bacon comes in, but my bacon comes in long thin strips about an inch wide. Sounds like perfect rim tape.
