…of pigs. As time goes on, its seems as if my dislike for police only gets stronger. I live in a town with a pop. of 70,000 and low crime. The police here have really nothing better to do than harass kids. I know you might be thinking, “Oh, he just likes to do bad things and doesnt like it when a policeman stops him.” but its not like this. What about major police faults like the beating of Rodney King (and the thousands of other poice brutality cases), the imprisonment of people like Mumia Abu-Jamal, Leonard Peltier
, and groups such as the MOVE 9, etc.? what are your thoughts on the police state? Rotten gang of pigs or life saving protecters?
Grow up.
Your post is malicious in content.
PLEASE explain
It’s not my ‘mission’.
If you need counseling … talk to your parents or a ‘shrink’.
Better yet … talk to a police officer.
Notice i said 'police state," not every police officer by themselves. I dont think most police are bad people. I just think they have too much power, and when in groups, bad things CAN happen. Are you an officer of t3h law or something?
Police are not your enemy. They start their day much like anyone else: trying to get to the end of it in one piece. I believe that police officers are goon people in general. They didn’t become cops because they wanted to become dicks. They became cops because they actually wanted to help people, and because they believe in a structured society. They want to make the world a better place.
Now, I do believe what I just said. However, I also believe that somewhere along the line, their reason for become a cop changes, and something gets twisted for some people. THis is where the minority of bad police officers come from. I guess that could be attributed to the way the system is run; you know, millions of forms and paperwork and whatnot.
But, from what I have read, it seems that you feel disenfranchised or singled out or something angsty and “punk rock” like that. Well, sure, that could be the case. This could be due to the fact that they are, for lack of a better term, uneducated. They make judgements based upon observation. Someone with a 2 foot mohawk is going to be question more than someone with a crew cut. That’s how it works. Don’t get me wrong though, I know that because someone is wearing a spike collar, it doesn’t mean they are evil. Perhaps this is where the problem enlies with you.
Do not get into combat- verbal or otherwise- with police officers. These people put their lives on the line everyday, believe it or not, to protect you and your loved ones. They don’t want corporate masters and whatnot. They want to do good and save the day.
The police do not have too much power. They don’t have any power really. Cor-political states have power, not police. You have to understand that the police are the foot soldiers of the cor-political. For example, if evil nazi thugs are in power, then sure enough the police will be enforcing evil nazi thug policy.
NO one gets up in the morning and thinks about stomping babies man; they aren’t bad people.
Sure, bad things can happen when they are in groups. If some guy is trying to shoot me, I’ll be on edge and shoot him first.
I have nothing but utter respect for police officers. The same goes for the military, firefighters, and paramedics.
It sounds to me like you just need to chill out and let go of some angst man.
edit- I am sorry if I came off a bit strong. It is just a topic a bit close to my heart.
the cops aren’t the bad guys, man. they have reasons for doing everything they do. give me an example of times they’ve ‘harassed’ you with no good reason.
Usually I dont have any probs with em, most are cool. But some are just annoying (hey officer mitchel I thought you said you didnt want to come out here again tonight:D ) Make friends with cops make your life easier. Hey and I think some of them deserve the beatings, Do the crime do the time, If you run deal with the policemans fun!
Somtimes yopu can iritate them without knowing or realizing it.Not that i would know. Our town has NO police.
But too much government control is a bad thing, but i dont think police are that bad myself…
how did it go from police brutality to punk to haircuts? I don’t really get it. As I said earlier, I dont think police by themselves or most police are bad people.
I’m saying that someone who looks “out of the ordinary” will be hassled more than someone who looks like everyone else because the police make their descisions of who is a troublemaker based upon appearance.
Also, dig the whole section:
I was saying taht you think police are bad because you feel like you are singled out by them, which is how you are coming off.
I also think that as a whole the police force is not bad. If it sounded like I was talking about individuals, I apologize. I meant for it to be applied to the police as a whole, minus a few “bad apples.”
eidt- By the way, how did you come to such a brash political stance? I mean, you are like 14 according to your information. I ask because I get the feeling it has a lot to do with the music you listen to.
Well, along with everyone, the police make stereotypes. I know I get hasselled alot more by cops because I’m a young guy.
The other day I got pulled over driving my dad’s van. I wasn’t speeding or anything, I just got pulled over. I guess It was because I was driving a big hippy van with surfboards on the top, and I had a bandana on.
The policeman comes up to the window looks at the chips I was eating and asks “Oh, you got the munchies eh?” then he starts to give me a hard time about the rust on the side of the van, then walks all around it, inspects the whole thing, and eventually gives me a ticket saying it needs to be professionally inspected before it can go back on the road. He hands me the ticket and asks about the little message someone wrote in the dirt on my back window. “So, who’s the ‘SEXY BEAST ON BOARD’ ?” he asks…I look at him with a straight face and say “Who do you think?”
The whole time I was sitting there, on the side of the road, no body else got pulled over. And sure, the van may be a little rusty, but the frame is solid and all the lights work, and I live on Vancouver Island for crying out loud.
I know for a fact my dad wouldn’t have been hassled if he’d been driving the van.
i went to high school in a town of about 5000 people. most of them eldery, conservative, christian types. we’re also the county seat, which means we’re the town that gets the sheriffs office. the cops literally have nothing better to do 99% of the time than pull over high school kids for random stuff.
“you didn’t stop at that last stop sign”
-“i sure did”
“not for the full 3 seconds the law requires you to”
-“um, okay. sorry”
“license. registration. been drinking?”
-“here ya go, and i’m sober”
“we’ll see about that”
cop walks off for about 35 mins to check stuff.
“everything came back fine. why are you eyes bloodshot?”
-“it’s dark and you’re pointing a bright light in my eyes? i honestly don’t know. i’m sober”
“well fine. we’ll let you go with a written waring this time, but you don’t stop next time, you’ll get a ticket”
-“okay. thanks officer.”
not unusual. also not unusual for them to search your car or your person for no reason. refuse the search and you’ll stay there longer while they phone for the dog.
generally cops aren’t bad, the cops in Ames have little serious crime to deal with but have enough that they don’t concern themselves with minor traffic violations, at least, not usually. most cops are good people and make the world a better place. stuff like that does happen, and it sucks.
Not necessarily true. A guy can be a dick right from the start, and becomes a cop in order to screw with people.
Just saying it’s possible.
I nhave always been mostly neutral when it comes to police until the last 6 months. No, its not the music, because I have been listening to that for a couple years. And most “punk” bands aren’t strongly anti police. It has mostly been from personalk experiance and reading. The police here are great compared to places like LA, where the whole justice system is corrupt.
OK, what personal experience then?
I know what DK’s problem is. He’s been watching too much Reno 911.
Just this weekend, my friend and I had just eaten lunch at a resturant downtown. Since my mom was going to pick us up and she wasn’t there yet, we waited on a bench across the street. After about 5 minutes, we saw a cop car coming down the road. He slowed, stopped and got out about 15 feet away. He tells us this,“You kids are gon’ have to get off that bench right now.”
So I said, “Why is that?”
“Because there are a lot of elderly people that walk down this street and they might want a place to stop and take a break.”
“I dont see anybody walking, and besides, theres room for them to sit too. My mom should be here top pick us up any minute.”
“Son, I told you you cant sit there. Dont make me call talk to your parents.”
“Go ahead”
“Do I hear back talk young man? Ill have to arrest you fpr loitering”
“Theres no “no loitering” signs…”
right about then, my mom pulls up and the policeman took the favor of telling the “what happened” to my mom. Basically, she told him that we have rhte same rights as somebody out on a walk, and there was no reason for this confrontation.
Mr.police guy replies, “Ok ma’m, but if i see your son and his friend out here again, I will give them a $100 dollar fine.”
Mom mom drove off- the end. That was kind of the last straw. why cant they be out there busting rapists when they are messing with people?
^ I saw that episode.
It was Jim Dangle, wasn’t it?
Boy, I had had the chnce I would beat your tail. Aint nothing wrong with police, they are your friends. Why, once a policeman saved my load of bannas when I was driving to Ohio. He saw my trailer was comin off and he stopped me, so that I could fix it.
