I have to thank my Sister over a Vandenburg AFB, she sent me a head’s up
about 2 days ago, then this morning I got one of those so I though I had
better get the word out.

I am attaching the notice here.

***** Virus Alert for WWSI Customers: 07/20/2001 *****

This virus is now being spread accross the Internet in the form of an
attachment to email. Please check your email very carefully before opening
any executable (.exe) file received, even if it is from a reliable source.
This virus does not affect non-windows based systems.

  1. VIRUS NAME: W32.Sircam.Worm@mm

  2. ALIAS: W32/SirCam@mm, Backdoor.SirCam

  3. THREAT LEVEL: LOW

  4. VIRUS DESCRIPTION: W32.Sircam.Worm@mm contains its own SMTP engine,
    and propagates in a manner similar to the W32.Magistr.Worm. The worm
    is still being analyzed by the vendors. For further information check
    with the vendor of your anti-virus software. WWSI highly recommends
    that you update your anti-virus software on a regular basis and keep
    complete backup files of your email and web based files.

This worm arrives as an email message with the following contents:

 Subject: The subject of the email will be random, and will be the
 same as the file name of the attachment in the email. Message: The
 message body will be semi-random, but will always contain one of the
 following two lines (either English or Spanish) as the first and last
 sentences of the message.

          Spanish Version: First line: Hola como estas ? Last line:
          Nos vemos pronto, gracias.

          English Version: First line: Hi! How are you? Last line: See
          you later. Thanks

I got three instances of a virus today asking me my opinion on the
attached docs. (Yeah… an extension of doc.bat is not suspicious? :wink:
It was all from the same person. I emailed them to let them know they
had a virus…

Thanks for the warning. I keep getting from 10 to 20 of these per
day. I know even read my email directly on the server without
downloading it first.
