Texas Regionals

Sunday September 1, 2002
The first Annual Regional Texas Mountain Unicycling Meet (ARTMUM) was a huge success. Centrally located Warda Tx was the agreed upon location, since Bluff Creek MTB Ranch hosts other significant TMBRA (Tx mtn bike racing assoc) events. Participants arrived from as far as Houston, San Marcos and San Antonio. –The most mountain unicyclists ever assembled at Bluff Creek. We had as many riders, as bathrooms, and the 3 of us rode about 3 hours through the 11 mile course. We spoke with several interested bicyclists and possible converts. Afterwards, we wanted to dine at the finest restaurant (and only building –with windows) in town: WardaBurger –but it seems the long horn cattle were the only ones around and we prefer our meat cooked. After the long discussions interspersed with riding, we held an election for the location of the next meet. We realized a simple majority would not do, and agreed that a 2/3s majority would be required for purely internal affairs. The point was moot, since we had a unanimous decision to meet next in San Antonio –date to be announced.
Special thanks to all in attendance:
Scott Wallis, John Payne, and (me) Jerry Gruss

Sounds like fun. Do another one in late december/early january when i might be able to make it.

Re: Texas Regionals

Dang! Jerry Gruss rode there? I missed it again. Why wasn’t I notified? Is there a newsletter of some kind to which I could subscribe?

i wanna go next time!

Hey, I am scott. Im from Texas, specifically San Antonio. Ive talked to Mr. Wallis and i was planning on muniing with him sometime in the very near future. Could you guys tell me when you have the next time to ride together? thatd be great. I want to be as active in the unicycling community as i can and JEST(Juggling Enthusiats of South Texas) doesnt seem right for me. Unless ive talk to someone, which i wouldnt mind doing. There isnt many unicyclists in our area, and i am open to ride with anyone, anytime. Im not too skilled yet (riding a little over a month) but i muni and think its great. I need to ride with other people though! contact me if you want to ride

need a response

hey, anybody from texas, respond to this post!

Re: Texas Regionals

My ancestors were from Texas. Does that count?

If you’re wanting to find some other unicyclists in your area, just get out
and ride in public and at public events. They’ll find you. Also, check at
several of your local bike shops. They will probably know of some other
riders around you.

Okay.

There are a bunch of us in Austin. AJ, for example, does insane stuff like
riding the MS 150.

The ride at Warda was a blast, and had it been planned more than a day in advance all of you would have received nice embossed invitations.

I am always up for a ride so anyone can contact me if they are going to be in the area.

Lone star unis

I’m in Dallas. Email me about events since I only check this group about once a month. centromachetes@hotmail.com

John

centro will ride muni with you guys on his giraffe since he sold his hunter.

I ride Muni in Austin. There are some pretty good trails here.
Next time you have a meeting, post it here. I’m sure I could
make it to San Antonio. Thanks.

I’m glad to see the responses to this thread. There are more muni riders around here than I thought.

Centro, if you muni on your giraffe here, you better carry a chainsaw. The tree branches are rather low in places.

Scott Kurland, how about an e-mail address? Better yet, register, I finally did.

Scott Stephens, see you soon.

The rest of you I hope to contact or meet soon.

Scott Wallis

Hey, there’s too many Scotts in here.
