Just one of many stories today but it hit home. Mary was at CherryVale Mall this morning shopping with her special ed. class. Of course there was never any active danger to the public, just thought it was interesting that we sort of made the news.
That’s awful!
I’m glad he got caught. What’s the point of terrorism, anyway?
To cause terror.
Why on earth would you tell anyone if you planned to do that?
Also since when is a 9 and a hand grenade counted as a ‘weapon of mass destruction’?
A scary story nethertheless.
Obviously, you’ve never seen what a grenade and a high cap 9 can do. I wouldn’t say a WMD, but still highly dangerous in trained hands and unsuspecting people. Not fun.
I imagine there’s something in the Patriot Act that defines a WMD as something that can hurt/kill more than one person at a time. Like a car. If so, then hand grenades would fit. …And we’re all in danger of being arrested for federal crimes when we drive.
Quote from the article:
"According to the affidavit, Shareef had been under investigation since September, when he told an acquaintance “he wanted to commit acts of violent jihad against targets in the United States as well as commit other crimes.”
Sounds like our “war on terror” is giving American thugs ideas on how to cause mayhem that they may not have thought of if we weren’t in such a war.
How do you win a war on terror? Same as winning a war on drugs? Never. If you disagree, please define the parameters of a victory.
Sounds like this guy’s just using religion as an excuse to kill some people. A real Muslim would never do this. Also if a Christian shot some people, I very much doubt they would write that he was Christian in the first sentence.
Muslim religious law states that rules don’t apply to non-Muslims. So believe it or not, yes they would, killing non-muslims is entriely acceptable. Just look at the formation of Pakistan, whole train loads of Sikh and Hindu bodies arriving in India (not that the same didnt happen the other way too). Obviously the vast majority of Muslims do not condone this in any way, as always it’s the tiny minority that give the rest a bad image.
John, does this mean they DID find WMDs in Iraq then? I mean there must have been a grenade knocking around somewhere.
a real Christian, Jew, Hindu, Muslim would never do this. But there are many misinformed people, who do not know what their religion teaches.
This afternoon, I took Mary out for a birthday dinner at Tumbleweek and some Christmas shopping. We ended up at CherryVale mall having Cinnabuns. I’m happy to report that we didn’t not get blown up even when we threw our Cinnabun boxes in a mall trash can. It feels good to have escaped with my life.
Your post is a little late…remember 9/11? It hit home then big time.
But I didn’t specify the size of the home hitting. Yes, 9/11 was a horrible event. I think we all agree on that. But it is not the only terrorism event to have occured or that will someday occur. I’m not sure why you think my post about the CherryVale Mall event wasn’t timely. The best part of it though is that the mall event did not happen thanks to the efforts of many alert people.
Oops. It was Tumbleweed.
So you’re reminding us that, if people heeded the many warnings available before 9-11, THAT did not have to happen either, huh?
Geez, what is with you folks tonight? I didn’t mention anything at all about 9/11. I simply related a link to one story about a shopping mall in our vicinity. The event did not occur thanks to the diligence of law enforcement officials and probably many other behind the scenes people. What can be better than that?
What the story says to you is completely up to you and you alone.
Terrorism is just violent protests, thats all it is and all it ever will be. How there is a :war: against it completely baffles me. How do you win against an “idea?” …exactly.
Don’t be scared of it, or else the terrorist will always win because that is exactly the higher purpose of such an event.
Now that baffles me. Hey, lets do some protesting. Whoops, we just happened to kill a bunch of people. It was all in fun. Hope they don’t mind.
a protest doesn’t necessarily mean it is nonviolent. It is repression of the people. Positive or negative. Violent or non-violent.
Terrorism is one step more, people willing to give up anything to honor their idea. Although it may cause harm to others on the other end, the repressed are commemorating the souls which do such. As long as you oppress the action repression against it will rise. They are letting you know “hey, we exist too.”
Besides, anyone can be a terrorist. They just happen to be stereotyped right now.
Things like this are foiled every single day, and if the culprit weren’t Muslim I doubt it would even make the news. It’s a sad world we live in.
With the bent of today’s news, you are probably right.
