Hey people. I am teaching my friend how to ride a unicycle and he can get one crank to go around about 4 times everytime he goes… sometimes its 5 and sometimes is 3. Can somebody give me hints on teaching him to ride?

one more of us and one less of them!
n00bs tend to lean back too far in the beginning. watch for that
YES he is doing that… i tell him to lean forward but he ends up going forward really fast…
well at least he doesnt have fear of falling forward.
when i taught my little brother, he leaned back too much but was terrified of falling on his face.
tell him to not be scared at all. 99% of the time he will land on his feet.
it would also be easier if he had all his wieght in the saddle and look forward with his arms waving like crazy!
Tell him that if he learns to ride with in a week you will show him your bike with no wheels. If that doesn’t work then i suggest what some of the other people said, just doubling up on it
i actually do have a bike with no wheels:p
does it help for him to look forward?
…as opposed to looking backwards, yes.
hah i didnt mean it like that… he says its better for him to look down… should he look straight or look down?
Definitely straight ahead. It’ll seem harder at first, but it’s better to learn that way than to try and fix it later on.
yea i was telling him that but i wasnt sure if i was right so now i know! thanks:)
Back straight, weight on the saddle, look a good distance ahead. I think this is pretty standard advice for any beginner.
Tell him to keep his eyes on something in the distance (something that doesn’t move) and to sit up straight, with his weight on the seat. You will go where you’re looking; if you look down, you’ll go down, If you look ahead, you’ll go further forwards.
also tell him to hold his arms out like hes holding bike handlebars. (but can move them to keep balance) that helped me alot.
yea i was thinking that too
I learnt by riding along side a fence, I found that helpful.
Also, as for the posture, someone gave me advice which helped, " pretend you have a pole up your ass, conecting to your backbone.
Also, its just practice, and getting use to the feeling, and how your body needs to react to keep yourself stable.
HAH oh i wouldnt have thought of it like that but ok:)
hey you guys helping me helped him! he can freemount and almost go without stopping:)
Tell him, “One more of us, one less of them,” for us.
Or better yet, get him on the forums!
